I have a Volq. SS fluted barrel w/compensator on my SW22. I also have a TK compensator that I have swapped back and forth between the 2 at the range and notice ZERO difference between them.
Just to qualify a little, I am not a competitive shooter. I am retired and my Victory is just a hobby and range toy so I went a little overboard on dressing it up with "upgrades".
I bought the TB model Victory with plans just to run the TK compensator. Then I figured, what the heck and just went for the Volq. barrel/comp for the extra bling factor. Having now had both products in my hand, had I stayed with the OEM TB, the TK compensator would have been my pick between the 2 for mainly 1 reason only. The matching Volquartsen comp and barrel seam is crazy tight tolerances and almost invisible. Looks like 1 piece. Do to the tight tolerances, it leaves the matching edges with razor sharp edge. The Volq. bull barrel is larger in diameter then the OEM Victory barrel by a fair amount. I didn't measure the difference and have since sold the S&W barrel, but I would venture a guess that its @1/8 in smaller then the Volquartsen. Mating the Volquartsen compensator to the S&W barrel will leave that razor sharp edge exposed. Possibly an injury could happen if not careful. Certainly IMHO even if potential injury didn't happen, I could see over time that the compensator mating edge could/would get dinged up easily. The TK edge has some relief in it as it was made to match the factory barrel.
Now all that said. Would I buy the Volquartsen SS Fluted barrel and compensator again? Yes I would. Does it help me shoot better? That's up for debate. Does it make the gun better? I like to think so. Having shot a stock Victory prior to buying my own, I noticed right away that I was getting better grouping at 25 yards with the new barrel. Much better in fact. But I also have a TK trigger and like it far better than stock. So I have to believe that my own experience to be chalked up to its a "sum of all it's parts" situation.
Is the Volquartsen barrel a must have? No. It is a very cool looking barrel for sure. The SW22 is very capable as it is. But now having done to mine what I have, what I consider the best bang for my buck would be the TK trigger. For me, that is a must have upgrade over stock. 2nd would be aftermarket grips. Or if not, I would at least get some Talon grip on it immediately. OEM grips are far to slippery for me.
