Soon to acquire 4566
I've been keeping my eye out for a 4516 for quite a while. Stopped by my LGS yesterday almost penny less and saw a 3rd. Gen. in the bottom case with a tag that said S&W4566, $400.
I went back today to inspect it and with enough cash to put it on layaway, if it checked out, until I can assemble the appropriate funds. Remarkably it is in very good shape with just a little exterior wear. Shop owner said he had the case, so I asked if the extra mags were in it, and they were.
Not exactly what I was looking for, but extremely delighted with my find and the shop.

$400 sounds like a screaming deal. I picked one up a few weeks ago and haven't had a chance to put any rounds through it.

You're going to like shooting the 4566. It is heavy, wouldn't want to carry it all day but for a home pistol or range use it is very enjoyable. Possibly the softest shooting 45acp I have ever shot. Mine is the TSW and has the rail, adding to the weight. Feeds anything!!

Sure sounds like an excellent deal to me. I am a HUGE fan of the 3rd Gen 45s. I have the '16, '66 and the '06. My favorite is the 4506. I know it is big and heavy, but that's what I like about it. My first 3rd Gen was the '16 but I don't really like it as much as its larger brethren. Disclaimer...I don't carry any of them.

Congrats! I snagged one on the big auction site a few weeks ago for $370, but mine came with only 1 mag and no box/paperwork/etc. You got a smoking deal!

I paid considerably more than that for mine several months ago. I absolutely love it. Of my six .45's, it is my favorite. Accurate, will digest anything you feed it, and is a pleasure to shoot. Congrats.

I found a 4566 TSW w/rail last summer for $425, no box, but like new condition, it was a movie prop gun, so says the gun shop. I had just purchased a Colt Commander so I turned a buddy on to it and he snagged it up and said I'd have first right of refusal. Great gun! Congrat's.

Oh YEAH!
Yours is just like mine, and I paid $500 for it on GB a while back with no box and with two mags. You done real good!
You can take your own glamour shots later, so here's a couple of my old girl. There's some honest wear and tear, and frankly I like it that way.
Mine's my HD pistol, residing in the night stand as we speak.

Nice find! Box & all.
That one's near the end of the run of the non-TSW models too.
Spec Order# "8172" (June 21, 1998, which was a Sunday -weird-) & "03" is for rev.03 (R3)
That Product Code #148172 isn't listed in the SCSW (no surprise) but obviously it's the one for that revision.

4566s are built like tanks. The one downside is the trigger play springs in the 45XX series tend to weaken or break, causing a distinct click when the trigger is pulled in single action. It does not affect operation , however, just annoying. It can be replaced. I'd replace the recoil spring due to its unknown history.

I was looking for a 4506 when I found my 4566.
I was on it like stink on poop.
Mine is not a TSW. No rail. Just night sights.
I couldn't be happier.

Fortunately or unfortunately I bought my 4566 NIB. And that is the way it still is in my safe. But not to worry, I have my 4506, 4516 and 745 to shoot to my heart's content. 3rd Gens are just awesome!
