Default New to me 6906

LGS got some police trade in pistols early last week. Had them hold a 6906 for me. Picked it up Friday and was pleasantly surprised at how clean and minimal wear the pistol had. Got this bad boy for a mere $299.99

She's a beauty! Picked up a similar condition police trade in 6906 right before Christmas. Got it from the GB site for $290 + $15 shipping. It didn't come with a mag but I had several on hand.

I have had a 6906 for a long time, put plenty of rounds through it, and it has never jammed or failed to fire! (gun was purchased new)

It now uses 10 shot magazines in order to comply with the idiotic NYS "safe act"

Need to look up the specifics and see when this was manufactured. Took it all apart and everything looks to be in good condition.

You'll love that 6906! I recently picked up a former Ca. Dept. of Corrections 6906, with stamped control numbers on the frame, slide, and barrel. The pistol has little to no wear, and is shoots like new. Enjoy!

That is a beauty. My recent LEO trade-in was only $230 +tax but has lots of character. Dings and dents on the frame, but the rails seem like they have lots of use left in them. A Third Gen for under $300 is hard to pass up. Congratulations on your purchase!

I always found it interesting that holster makers usually have holsters for the square trigger guard models but models with the rounded one like above are few and far between.

I ordered the 6946 tonight from Gander Mtn. I had been looking at them and the 6906 for some time, just saw on their site they were offering $50 off on purchase, couldn't pass up $249 plus shipping. It was a one day only sale.

joeintexas...Congrats on your 6946 and a sweet deal! FYI...Periodically Gander runs a 6946 mag sale (12 rounds, used condition, SW made) on the gb site. They're in lots of 6 and it is by bidding. There is no current listing. The 6946 mags also fit the 6906.

They waive the shipping at our local store if you call the store and have them order it for you! Might be worth a try for ya...

I purchased a six pack of mags from gander mountain also, they were all in working condition but all of them needed new base/floor plates. Brownells sells the floor plates for $4.99 each

Don~Z~...On the last bidding go around there were 3 separate lots. On one, the final "win" was around $150. It's kind of fun to watch, but that's a little steep for my pocket book. But, none the less, you're set for mags! Most of the time the "win" is around $100.
I've picked up a few spare mags for my 6906 along the way. They're available, one has to be patient. Went to a local gun show here in Reno a couple of weeks ago, and there was a vendor with half a table of unmarked mags. They were all $20 each. The bright stainless of a 6906 mag caught my eye. It was a 12 rounder with the "S" stamping. Quickly bought it.

Don't have a local store unfortunately. Closest one is Ft. Worth, 150 miles away.

Do your best to pick up several magazine for your 6906. It seems they are getting harder to find and the prices for used 6906 magazines are climbing.

Interesting...

I picked up VJD8604 this morning at a gun show for $299. He had a pair of 6906s in this condition and a half dozen 5903s in varying conditions.

It's possible our 6906s were delivered to the same department on the same contract given that they are just 14 pistols apart.

I also found two more 6906 magazines for $25 each, but got them both for $40.

I liked the Model 39 way back in the day, but never liked the Model 59 as it didn't fit me well, so I've ignored the double stack S&W pistols ever since, but for $299 it was hard to pass up.

I put 100 rounds through it and functioning was perfect. It's not the most accurate 9mm I have by any means, but it is very reliable.

I was also pleasantly surprised with the handling. The grip fit me well, and it recovers very well under recoil. I was afraid the long DA trigger and fairly long reset on the SA trigger would be an issue, but it shoots double taps and controlled pairs surprisingly well - just 8 ring accuracy on double taps at 10 yards rather than 9 ring accuracy.

There's the ding on the front strap, and some normal holster wear, but it's in excellent mechanical condition and appears to have been fired comparatively little - probably carried by someone who didn't get out much.
