SW Model 41 No Markings
This is a custom S&W Model 41 Custom.
Anyway to check date?
Is it possible to determine if this is a Bob Loveless Field Gun?

Can you check by the serial number on the frame (hope it has one)? I have only seen a couple of pictures of the Loveless model 41's, they are interesting pistols. Thanks for showing us yours.

The serial number is shown in the photo. One on the magazine and on the frame under stock are abbreviated 94.
The only other mark I could find was "Model 41".

The SN puts it in about 1969. This is the first I have seen a modified model 41 like this and am looking forward to reading more about it - obviously a skilled conversion and hard chrome job.
PS: From a quick Internet search, it sure looks like a Loveless gun; there appeared to have been several variations made with minor detail differences.

Believe Loveless marked his as shown in picture (post 130). There are a few other people who made similar conversions, but the best quality are Loveless and one Chow made. The mag is similar to the Loveless modification, but not the same quality of work from my views. Loveless etched and then stamped the SN (last 3) in the mag when complete.

To me it looks more like a Beretta FS92 then a M41. If its handmade someone has done a great job of making it. Welcome to the forum as well from Canada.

Hi Tom,
Do you know if Mr. Loveless marked all of his 41 conversions with the Loveless signature on the side of the barrel? I have seen at least a couple which were documented Loveless conversions which did not have the markings on the side of the barrel. Not debating the 41 pictured in this thread but curious on your opinion on if he released any without the Loveless signature on the side of the barrel. The ones I have seen had the rest of the classic markings on the mag, frame, and barrel. The most recent was one that Rock Island ran through the auction block fall of 2015.

Mike, I am weak in this area, but would be surprised that Loveless would have not signed all units, but I have been surprised a few times over the last 80 years. What I have seen in real or pictures, all were marked as I remember. Would think Stone would sign any he built also? On the other hand - possibly a "work in progress" that was sold before complete? The mag mod looks Loveless. I happened into a Loveless mag a while back (doubt most folks recognized it) and have felt like the little by that found horse stuff in the back yard, and knew that pony had to be there - but not yet.

Update, it is a Loveless Field Gun
It was recently offered on an online gun auction site. I took some pictures of the pictures, and sent them to a few people that would know. I got lucky, they all replied.
I was one of only three bidders. There was no interest.
Bob Loveless made this one in 1973-1974, so it's a fairly early one.
He made it for Dr. David Dixon. Dr. Dixon was Bob's landlord for the house/shop at 4333 Tyler St. Riverside. Bob later bought the house from David. David was a special guy, and one of Bob's closest friends. David suggested a few changes to the Loveless Fighter, which Bob made. (Loveless Dixon Fighter Knife.)
I am gathering a lot of information and documentation on this pistol.
