Default New 3953TSW ?

Hi folks.... first post here. What do you make of this? "Factory new" 3953TSW at Buds? Do you think these are new old stock or new production or repair parts made into new pistols? I can't find any info on where these came from. Ideas? Regardless, I ordered one.....

Hard to say where they came from, but we just recently saw new 5946's hit the market via Cabelas. The 5946s were an approved on duty service weapon for the NYPD and the 3953 was approved for off duty use. With a force of 35,000 officers, it was a good market for S&W.
NYPD is now equipping recruits with Glock 17s, so I might guess S&W and/or NYPD may be cleaning out their stock on hand. Just speculation, of course.
To speculate even more, NYPD probably pays about $300 for a 5946 While the Glock would be about half of that.

I have absolutely no use or need for another 3953 but if these were the original (round firing pin retainer / long slide / short trigger throw) or the pre rail TSWs I'd be very inclined to buy one.
I've had six of the original DAO type (9mm, .40, & 10mm) and like their trigger system.
I'd take the second (rail / short slide / long trigger travel) type as a gift but it would have to be a real deal before I would ever buy one.

hooksnatcher,
Just how bad is that "itch"?

Seriously, they show up pretty regular on the large gun auction site.
I (foolishly) passed on a very nice "Special Order" 3953 a few months back that went for $350 plus shipping.
Bad non-move on my part!

I have never use a DAO pistol when you rack the slide to load the chamber
how do you drop the hammer or do you just carry it cocked.
(Sorry just don't know.)

When you rack the slide to chamber a round, the hammer will automatically return to the forward position. On these pistols it will return to a half cock position for a shorter DAO trigger pull.

Well, I found and purchased the 3953's full size NYPD 5946 partner gun. I found the LNIB/NIB/NOS 5946 on the big auction site. Looks to be the same one as from Cabelas. Looks brand new, three magazines, Trijicon night sights, and the seller even packaged it with a Gould leather holster with snap retention. Cabelas has them listed right now at $799. I won this one for $525 without shipping/transfer. I think I scored!

I bought one of the 3953TSW's from Bud's a few months ago. It's my daily carry and I love it.

Is there any reason to prefer the pre-rail 3953TSW over the rail version?

I have both a pre rail and rail 3913TSW. I find the that the pre rail is just a bit lighter and more comfortable to carry. Which might be more holster than gun related.

I have a non TSW 3953, which will go into my carry rotation soon. If I came across a pre rail 3953TSW, I'd probably buy that and add it to the family.
