Default What options do I have for a single stack 9mm?

Well I will be getting a S&W single stack 9mm but I have no idea what there is offered. I will be carrying it AIWB and IWB so it will mainly be a carry piece in the summer but also a range toy.

So what are my options? I started looking and saw the 3913, 3914, 3953, 6964.... Good grief!

So what are all the options and differences? Seems pretty crazy.

If ANYONE has one they might part with that would fit my bill, please PM me as well. This place never lets me down!

CS9 is another you should be considering. Some say the CS9 is the ultimate concealed carry weapon. Have fun in your search.

I don't want it too small. I'd like to get a full grip while having it about the size of a Glock 43 with a +2 baseplate. Not sure where that lands me. Holding any of these in person is practically impossible for me it seems.

Needs to be a single stack, and assuming that you require a 3rd Gen... and you want to have enough grip to hold and it will be carried IWB.

Seems like 3913 is exactly where you should land. More so than the 3914, which not only seems to be a bit harder to find, but will be less wear-resistant.

That's what continuous searching on the internet shows. Nothing but good things to say.

I wonder if putting a WTT thread up with my nice 3" 629-1 for a 3913/3914 would bring up any nice ones?

Not me, I don't know the guy. But I just saw this a second ago.

I am familiar with the market... in your position, I wouldn't hesitate.

the 39XX series is single stack. 59XX and 69XX are double.

see this thread for size comparisons
3913 vs CS9

Thanks man! That helps a lot. I think the CS9 might be a hair smaller than I'm looking for.

I bought a 3913 when they first came out and carried it for 20 years or so as my LE bug and off duty. About two years before I retired, our agency transitioned from 4566 to M&P 45's. I retired the 3913 and bought a Kahr CW9 and shortly after that bought a P9 as well.

If a non 3900 series is an option, look at the Kahr; they have the same capacity as a 3913, are lighter, axis of bore sits lower in your hand, less sharp edges, lifetime warranty, and a new CW9 can be had for less than a decent used 3900 series gun. I wonder how much longer Smith will maintain or replace the parts for third generation autos, if they're doing so at all?

I like my Kahr P9. And my Pistola Makarova, but I suppose by 9 mm you want 9MM Luger/NATO/Parabellum etc.

I was actually just looking at that for an option...

I use finger extension on the cs9 mags so I don't confusion
With the 908 as the short ones won't cross over to the 908

The Kahr P9 is a 9mm x 19mm, Luger, Parabellum, etc pistol. A CW9 or P9 weighs 15 oz., while a 3913 weighs ten ounces more at 25 oz. The Kahr is lighter than all non aluminum alloy J frames. Mine are loaded with BB +P, which have quite a bit of snap. Don't miss the 3913 at all, but wouldn't want to sell it. I still like carrying my 640 Pro Series loaded with BB +P 158 L SWC HP .38, though it's heavier and has less capacity. Old habits die hard.

Carried a 3913 as my first dedicated off-duty gun when I first started my career. Absolutely a fantastic 9mm for CCW use. Light, big enough, reliable and accurate - overall a great pistol.

That all said - if you're at the stage looking to see what all is out there, you'd be remiss if you didn't hit up a range and rent a Sig P239 or P225.

The new offering from Sig bringing the P225 back - the 225A1 - is probably the finest new production single stack 9mm going (unless 1911's are your thing - that changes everything).

Default Kahr P9

I too am a fan of the P9 and it is the gun I carry most often. However, I switch to my G19 or my Browning HP when visiting a local stop-n-rob after dark.

The P9 carries so easily that I find myself occasionally checking to make sure I still have it. I'm using a High-Noon belt scabbard and several different IWB rigs.

I'm personally opposed to pocket carry, especially without a holster.

OP...In your first post you have a 69xx listed which is actually a double stack which in my experience conceals just as well as the 39xx guns......and there is no shortage of 6906 available on the webasphere

I sold my 908 and switched to a Sig P6 (older German police P225); had Sig night sites and a trigger job done by Sig and it's a way good gun.

On the other hand I can't find a better pocket pistol than my Shield and for IWB with a bunch of bullets it's a Walther P99cAS.

Default My Favorite and the BEST Single Stack IMHO

I have a 1998 Sig P225 that I recently had upgraded with night sights and Hogue aluminum grips. Yes, I know that it is larger and heavier than other options, but I personally don't care for small, sub compact pistols that you can barely get 3 fingers on the grip. I am not a "deep cover" operative or an under cover agent that I have to completely conceal my weapon. If I get into a situation that I need my pistol, I want a fighting handgun that fits my hand and gives me full confidence should I have to use it. Yes, the capacity is 8 + 1, and IMHO, that is enough for most CCW encounters.

Own both a 3914 and a CS9. Can't go wrong with ether IMO both are nice pistols.
I prefer the feel personally of the CS9 just ballances right to me in my hand. I rarely carry the 3914 instead will carry my double stack 6904 or the CS9.
Shoot well with both the 3914 and the CS9 and both are 100% reliable so---.

If I get into a situation that I need my pistol, I want a fighting handgun that fits my hand and gives me full confidence should I have to use it. Yes, the capacity is 8 + 1, and IMHO, that is enough for most CCW encounters.
I agree with the choice of the P225/P6 or the model 39. My 2 favorite single stack 9mm.

I too have a Sig P6 that I carry on occasion, a very accurate pistol for it's size. Only slightly larger than my P232 380, or Kahr P9. The main thing I disliked about the 3913 was how high it sat in my hand: axis of bore to grip was too tall.

3913 or 3913NL have been my primary concealed carry since 1990......

Check out Hogue grips rubber.... and even better checkered wood.

The Sig Sauer P239 would be my pick.

While I'm partial to the S&W 3913 as a "traditional" DA-SA single stack 9mm semiauto, in truth it would be hard to beat the H&K P7. It's a squeeze-cocker, gas-retarded masterpiece. Release the squeezer, it's safe. Great accuracy, incredibly reliable, very compact and concealable, sits low in the hand. BIG advantage: if it's taken from you (it happens!) the perp may spend some time trying to figure out how it works. The elite German GSG 9 counter-terrorism strike force used them for years as their preferred handgun. The German Army's Special Forces were also equipped with them. A bit pricey now, but well worth looking for.

This very early SIG P 220 single stack 9mm made in Germany is my favorite, closely followed by my Mod 39 that I have carried since the late 60's.

I wonder if putting a WTT thread up with my nice 3" 629-1 for a 3913/3914 would bring up any nice ones?
It would bring you this 3914 LS with new Trigicons and I'll throw in the hat! PM me if you want to trade.

Default I think that you did make it clear...

But can I ask the reason? Not to argue but for useful information on why I might not like my DAO double stacks. I started out with them for simplicity with inexperienced shooters, but I'm going beyond that. My wife has a revolver and my son is old enough to know the gun he's using.

There's a reason they're well on their way to 2,000,000 sold. #1 handgun sold.

Tried a 3913, hated the double decockers.
Then Kahr T9, nice but just too heavy for CC.
Finally found perfection - the 3953.
I think of it as a slim 8 shot 9mm revolver.
DAO, for me, is perfect for a defensive pistol - or revolver:

It alternates with a 640-1:
