Default CS-9

Hi Everyone!

I usually hang out in a different forum, but it was recommended that I come here with my question. I'm looking for information for a friend who just bought a CS-9 with a serial number of EKY8904. He would like to know the date of the gun if possible and any other info y'all might know.

Hope I'm posting this in the correct place. Thanks in advance!

Have your friend call S&W. They can give you a birthdate for the CS9. If you own a S&W pistol. stick around. You won't find a better forum.

Edit, Sorry, I just noticed you have over 900 posts, not bad for someone that hangs around on other forums.

The company can give you the production date of the serial number.

A quick and dirty aid would be that the earliest production CS9's had visible features such as plastic sights and single (left) sided manual safeties.

Later production models came with steel Novak-type sights and ambi manual safeties.

The Bible is not helpful regarding that serial number, unfortunately.

I have a CS9 in the same EKY sequence but a much lower number (12xx). Going by the code on the box and other evidence, mine was likely shipped in November 1998. That probably puts yours somewhere in 1999 or even later.

But the only way to know for sure... well, it's already been stated.

Thanks! It is a great forum! Even though I have a few semi-autos, they are mostly M&P's, so I've been in that sub forum, but mostly I'm into revolvers these days, so you'll find me there.

Thanks! That time line fits quite well based on what I know. I pass on the info to my buddy!

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the CS9 in blue was only made for 2 years (1998-1999).

TTSH is correct. The SCS&W IV says the blue guns were made 1998-1999. The stainless guns carried on for a few more years.

Just an update, and thanks again to everyone! I contacted S&W and got an answer in one day. The CS9 that I was inquiring about was made in March of 1999. Hopefully, this might help someone else! You guys are great!
