Default 10mm magazines

I read on this forum that 1911 magazines can be used in the 45XX series guns with a modification to the magazine catch slot. Does this infer that a 10mm 1911 magazine might also be modified for use in a 10XX? If so, that would go a long ways toward relieving the 10mm magazine shortage.

According to the July '89 Shooting Times, the prototype 610 used 4506 mags with indentations to keep the slimmer 10mm cartridges from nosing up and jamming.

Scanned and posted the entire article a while back....

Well, the 1911 10mm mag would have a tube sized for the 10mm. Just seems to me that if the 45 series can be converted that the 10mm series ought to be able to do the same thing. I've got enough 10mm mags to suit me, but I'm still curious if this is a potential fix for the 10mm mag drought.

A 1911 mag will not seat far enough in the mag well of my 645 to feed. The slide clears the top cartridge by about an eighth of an inch.

The mag from my Delta Elite will not go into the mag well of my 1006. It is to wide by about a sixteenth inch. The more square shape of the front of the 1006 magazine keeps it from going in the mag well of the more rounded front of the Delta Elite mag well. Even if it did go in it would be stopped about two thirds of the way in by the protrusions form in the body to keep it from going in the 45xx series mag well.

Well, that doesn't sound too promising.
