Default My favorite 9mm is a S&W

My favorite 9mm of all time (this is a tough one) is the Model 539. Blued carbon steel frame and slide, walnut grips.

Found a NIB, only-factory fired, box and tools example. Decocker works properly from half-cock (so it's not affected by the recall).

What I like:
1) All steel construction with wood grips
2) beautiful 'old world' bluing.
3) Single stack slim.
4) compact, yet still full size
5) all tool-steel machined parts

I don't feel disadvantaged with the 8-9 round magazine. It's the same size and weight as a commander 1911, which makes it great for both home defense and carry.

Any other M539 owners?

She's a beauty! I'm a sucker for those older model all steel S&W semi-autos. My personal favorites in my collection are my model 59 and model 908. Absolutely love those two babies!

Someday I'll get a 2nd Gen pistol. All of my S&W pistols are 3rd Gens. I do love them even if I am confirmed wheelgunner.....

Beautiful, but too bad it didn't have the other sights instead of those wings around the rear sight. I never understood that arrangement.
Never the less, a beautiful pistol indeed!

I agree about the winged sites; fixed combat style sites would have been perfect (some models, like the 39, had those).

The wings get a little sharp on the hand. wings aside, it's a beautifully made gun. A lot of time went into these older guns

Blaspheme!
My two favs 5906 and a 439. Wish I had 639 or a 659 and I love those sights. Until they started using Novak's the fixed sights were less desirable.

I found this one at a SouCal gunshow last year. It is factory test fired only. I like it, but I think I would rather carry my Colt Lightweight Commander .45 with 7+1 capacity at 27 oz. as opposed to a 9mm with 8+1 capacity and the same weight.

Default 9mm S&W favorites ...

Now that modern ballistics has brought the 9mm back into favor I do appreciate the size and capacity that the 9mm provides.

My all time favorite carry 9mm is the 3914 DAO that I was lucky to purchase from member here:

If I want capacity beyond the 8-1 of the 3914 I like the 5906 SSV that I cobbled together by putting a short slide on my 5906. It has a CT laser grip on it which makes it hard to conceal, but as a nite stand gun it excels:

Of course for more formal occasions, the 3913NL might go in my shoulder holster:

For collectability, my 5905 is the rare all steel black variant:

Liking DAO pistols for defensive carry, my 6946 adds capacity with 12 rd mags, but can take 17 rounders which I use for reloads:

When wishing I could shoot like some girls I've seen, my 3914LS is a carry choice:

So I guess I do like 9mm S&W 3rd gun semi-autos, M&P's and other striker fired firearms not so much.

I'm looking to buy a 915 to get the alloy frame for my "franken' gun" SSV. Maybe I'll put the slide from the 3914LS with fresh Trijicons on it to make a 17rd carry gun.

I'll probably forgo the CT grips as they are just to fat for concealed carry. I like the Big Dots though for defensive carry, here they are on my 3914DAO:

I have a bunch of 9mm pistols... more in 9mm than in any other chambering and some quick math tells me that 61% of my 9mm handguns are 1-2-3rd Gen S&W pistols.

Of all those 9's in my "other 39%" of non-S&W, the only one that gets my love and attention as much as my S&W is a Tanfoglio Elite Match. (I highly recommend but that isn't the subject here!)

Sorry, I can't pick my favorite S&W 9mm pistol. Too tough. But one of my recent pick ups was a 3906 with original night sights, now dim. What a fantastic pistol!

I'm looking to buy a 915 as a pre-"value line" is is all metal and the alloy frame makes it an easy carry.

I have a couple of 411's and a NIB 410 "value line" and think that they are all excellent firearms.

digiroc,

Since we're "neighbors"...I'll let you know if I decide to get out of the 3rd Gen business (something I've been kicking around for awhile now, but it's like selling children- maybe worse!) I have a 915 with some speckling on the slide, but the frame is in great shape.

While not my favorite carry, this is my favorite 9mm, a 952-1 she is an absolute delight to shoot, try to shoot at least 36 a day at long range.
