Shorty 40 - Night and Day
The stars and planets must have been in some kind of alignment, as I was able to purchase these two - individually, over the course of the past few months. Both Mk3's - complete, with boxes, finger groove and extra cap mags. I haven't had them to the range yet, but I'm very impressed with the fit of the parts and smoothness of these two old 3rd Gen Pistols. 40 S&W isn't one of my favorite rounds, but I've made an exception in this case.

The Shorty-40s were all the rage in the mid-90s. I was never a fan of the .40 as I already had 9mm's and .45s.
I was lucky enough to grab 2 "Shorty" 9s...... one has been my hi-cap concealed carry since about 1996.
You'll love the gun if not the round.........
Congrats and enjoy!!!!!

I love those rear sights! I thinking they are LPA adjustable. Anyone on here know for sure? I have noticed that every handgun I shoot the best has a rear sight that comes all the way to the rear of the slide. It seems my eyes focus on the rear of the slide and if the the sight is all the way at the rear I shoot it better. If I could get thoses sights machined on my 3913, 4026 and 4566 slides , I'd probably be happy for like!

What model numbers are the shorty 9s? Are they any smaller than a 6906 or 3913?

They are based on the 6906 frame and slide...... same size overall......
The "story" in the early 90s was; the PC would get raw parts ( like frames and slides) from the factory....... modify them ....they would also make some of their own parts, like the barrel bushing....... and then hand build and fit, a run of custom guns!
Others like the SD guns have the same frame as the 6906 but it's stainless steel vs alloy....... the stainless slide and barrel are totally unique at 4.25" vs the 6906's 3.5 inchs
What I didn't understand at the time was how small these runs were.......... often under 200 guns. Like the SD-9 only 180 were ever built.
The Shorty 40s seemed to be the most common at the time as the .40S&W was introduced in about 1992 IIRC. So it was the hot new carry caliber..............................

Nice scores, Bill! There's nothing like a Performance Center 3rd Gen to make one appreciate the elegance of "custom production" gunbuilding from a bygone era (unfortunately). I've owned a couple of Shorty 40s, both gone now due to caliber consolidation, but they were both joys to own and shoot. You might even re-think your position on the cartridge once you shoot a few from these two!

Really nice pair Bill. Kind of like "salt and pepper" or "ebony and ivory"!! Looking forward to the range report.
Are you planning to make it to Charlotte this year? Your presence was missed at Baton Rouge. Jim and I struggled to recreate the "beer forest" without you.
Best regards, Bob.

Very nice pistols! I also own a MK 3 Shorty in Black with the factory LPA adjustable sights and a early Pre rail 4013 TSW.
Like you i am no big fan of the .40 ( 10mm shooter so why?) but make an exception here because I really love shooting these pistols.
Congrats and welcome to the club!

I can confirm they are indeed LPA sights and also have a LPA Adjustable rear on my 1066. Will fit your 4566 with no mods BTW!
