Model 59 I'm considering
Asking $335. Is this a good deal in this condition? Appears to have some wear.

That's not terrible, but I'd try to talk him down to $300 max. I would pay between $250-$275 for a 59 in that condition. According to "the book" a 59 in good condition is worth $350. I'd say, by the looks of this one it is in less than good condition. But definitely try to get your hands on this pistol! I have two model 59s and absolutely love them! Both of mine are from 1977.

It's a shooter grade for sure.
Usually $350 can buy a nicer quality Model 59 with 1 factory 14rd metal base magazine.
The rear sight is not original S&W so the slide was altered to mount it and possibly weakened?
I can't tell if the front sight has been touched.
The grips are original and appear in very good condition.
None of my 59s have had the hole in the hammer.
Do you have a top view photo?
Does it ship with 1 or 2 original 14rd factory mags or aftermarket mags?
IMO,not a great deal at $335 but at $275-$300 it might work?
The 59 was made for 10 years with production of about 250,000 or so.

The hole in the hammer hints its a very early production run 59, might even have the smooth front strap but in that condition is not collectable.
Appears it has the later horseshoe barrel bushing so either the hammer or the bushing is a replacement but cant tell which with only a right side pic.
At that price you are in the 9mm Shield price range which has the S&W lifetime warranty and is supported by the factory, If the 59 breaks dont think S&W has parts for them and its definitely not under warranty.

For a carry/house gun, I would jump with 2 mags. You have 28 rounds at your disposal. OK deal. Best

An early A173xxx Model 59 is in front of me right now.It has no hole in the hammer. The slide stop notch cutout does not go fully through the slide.
There's a cutout in the slide behind the decocking lever.
The original rear sight is the lollipop shaped adjustable for windage.
The fixed black ramp front sight measures .150"

I carried a 59 as a duty weapon back in the dark ages. Very fine shooter. I always shot Expert or Master with it. Extremely rugged, can take a lot of abuse and very easy to use. You will enjoy shooting one. Haven't kept up on prices lately.

Seller won't go below $325. Methinks he doesn't want to sell. And thinks it's a museum piece I guess.

Well, if you keep looking, you might find a nice model 39.
If you have medium sized hands like me, you might like the feel of a single stack grip more than the 59.
I know I do.

I think the days of finding a Model 59 in very good to excellent original factory condition are gone in the $300s.
I have a 1st year 59 for sale locally with 2 mags,a new barrel that has almost all the frame blueing with a $450 asking price.Looks to have never seen a holster or rough handling.

I bought that one last year. A Pawn Shop Dealer had it marked $375 I asked what the best cash price was and he replied $300 including tax. I threw my money at him.

If I can't see the firearm in person and examine it I pass on buying it.
A FTF here in Texas saves the FFL fee, shipping fees and taxes.
About 40% of FTF arrangements from the state gun trader site end up with people not showing up
I buy other items off Amazon and ebay that have a good cost free return policy.I've bought/sold accessories from/to members here on the forum.

I believe that rear sight is the S&W aftermarket rear sight adjustable for windaage AND elevation.
