Default 2nd Gen, 3rd Gen Mag Compatibility

Hey friends, I have a Md 745 coming home soon. It only has one mag and I'm curious if it will accept any 645 mag or the later 4506 mags without issue. Your comments and help will be greatly appreciated.

I never had a 745, but the only difference I know of in a 745 vs the 645 is the color of the slide. Should be no problem. Others with these pistols, let me know if I am wrong.

Well haha, there are certainly more differences than the color of the slide but YES, 745 can use a 645, 745 and 4506 magazine all happily interchangeable.

I absolutely love my 745's, I have two of them and I often mention that we just don't talk about them enough around this forum!

Love love love the 745! I think they are both underrated and in the current market... undervalued.

Differences from 645 to 745:
  • blued slide on stainless frame
  • single action only
  • serrated black short-pull trigger
  • smaller black sharp serrated hammer
  • radically different rear sights, adj available only in last year of production
  • wood stocks standard
  • single side hammer block safety
  • no decocker or option for one
  • 745 has no firing pin lock..? Arrgh, I'll have to check this!
  • thumb safety is large and elongated
  • two adjustments for trigger: pre-travel and over travel
  • much larger "competition style" button magazine release
  • first year production "IPSC Anniversary" marked with reserved "DVC" serial number prefix
It's worth noting that the 2nd Gen .45's and also the 9mm compacts introduced (or foreshadowed?) the pressed-in non-removable barrel bushing that the full size single and double stack 2nd Gen 9mm pistols did not have. The 439, 539, 639, 459, 559 and 659 had the same removable barrel bushing as the 39/59.

I probably forgot some details... so 745 guys, help me out!

Thank you very much Sevens and spistols for your response. I am very happy to learn that I will have no magazine issues since i have plenty of spare 4506 mags. I just picked up my 745. It came with original box, docs and unopened tools and appeared to be in almost new condition. However, the internals were filthy! I don't recall ever buying a used gun that was so dirty. I'll probably finish cleaning it up today and hope to post a few pics on Monday. Thanks again for your help.
