The Mdl 5906 (SN VZD2XXX) now has new Novak Low-Mount front and rear sights with white dots! These replaced the original low-mount style night sights that were smaller, long dead, and slightly yellowed. The old sights also had a slight smaller aperture. They were not bad, but not so easy to see.

The work was done by Novak’s in Parkersburg, WV.

This was a good way to update a 3rd Gen S&W pistol that had older, smaller sights. Novak’s previously upgraded the old/very small slights on my Mdl 915, and they did that job equally well. (Now the 915 and the 5906 have the same sights, standardizing my full-size 3rd Gen pistols).

Are the new sights tritium?

Surely.

They are not Tritium -- they are white contrast dots. (Novak sells Tritium sights, but I prefer white dots).

Turn around time was two weeks total, counting time in the mail in both directions. So one week (at the most) in their shop. Their work is excellent.

I've been wondering about the cost of new sight installation. It's not something I want to do myself and I had my smith put new one on a Walther 99 and 99c for $50.00 per. I was a bit off-put...but I didn't ask him before he did the work so bad on me.

But if it's costing $50 for mail and installation from Novak, I'm thinking his price isn't too bad.

What are other folks getting charged by their smiths for sight installation?

The $50 you spent is not unreasonable. Some local gunsmiths might be lower...

Novak's charged me $35 to change the sights, and sold me the new ones for $69.90. That seems reasonable. (It cost me $8 to ship the slide to them, and $14.34 in shipping and handling for them to send it back. And no tax).

I feel I got good value for the money, and picked Novak's for this work because they did such a good job on my Mdl 915 (where the old sight cut had to be re-milled) and because they are a top-notch company that knows 3rd Gen S&Ws.

I bought a MGW sight pusher for my M&Ps when I went through a couple of them and did some Apexing and changed out the standard sights for Warren Tactical sights (which are great). The sight pusher cost around $120 and I reckoned it was worth owning if I changed more than two sights myself (plus it was faster). Then I sold the M&Ps and the sight pusher and recouped most of the cost. But with 3rd Gen S&Ws, I don't know how well a sight pusher would work -- and I've read some of the sights on these pistols are very, very tight and hard to adjust. Another reason why I went with Novak's.

All I can say is now the 5906's sights are a lot easier for me to see and are accurate, and I'm happy with the work.
