Will This Work?
So as I am on the quest for a 4596 and they are scarce, I will ask the question:
Will a 4516-1 slide/barrel/recoil spring assembly fit onto a 4506-1/4566 frame?
It seems more plausible that I have to assemble a 4596 rather than buy one. Most that I see have a square trigger guard which I rather don't like. I have only seen one with a round trigger guard and that was here on the forum.
So the question is, will the complete slide assemble from a 4516-1 fit a 4506-1/4566 frame?

Awesome
Is there a particular pairing that will not work?
I've heard (and read) that the 4516-2 is an odd bird and may/may not work.
I can't afford to guess at what will work.
Knowing that the 4516-1 will work helps narrow the search.
Thanks!

4516 no dash barrel is wider across the feedramp and camming lugs. It will only fit in a no dash frame either 4506nd or 4516nd.
Regarding your Franken4596 idea... any 4516-1 or later variant (4516-2, -3 or even 457) top end will drop onto any 4506-1 frame.
And note also that TSW parts only play well with other TSW parts.
Cheers
Bill

It will also work with a non-TSW 4566 correct?
There isn't a 4566-1 is there?
I think I am starting to over think it here.

Yes.
Nope.
Very likely.
On these franken45's, basically if it goes together and cycles by hand, you're golden. You should however check that the decock timing remains within factory specs whenever you swap an upper or replace the safety/decocker body.
In short, if it fits, it'll work.
Cheers

I have a 4516-1 with an additional 4566 upper and a 4506 upper. It has been flawless in all 3 configurations. TSW uppers will work on standard frames but not the other way around due to the rails in the dust covers of the TSW. My 4566 upper is TSW.

My 2004 production 4516-3 top end works on both my 1999 4566 frame and my 2001 4506-1 R3. Hope this helps! Regards 18DAI

With only 382 reportedly produced I've never seen one with a round trigger guard. This is my 4596

I thought I had saved the picture of the 4596 with the round trigger guard. I actually saw it on here at one time.
I'll have to check my phone, I'm pretty sure that is where I saved it.
I really appreciate all the feedback. I have considered doing this for a long time......now might be the time to build it.

There WAS A 4596 WITH A ROUND TRIGGER GUARD on here. At the time there was a lot of speculation on whether it was factory or not.
IIRC the consensus was that it was a replacement frame by the factory. Perhaps a technologically proficient member will find the thread and provide a link. Regards 18DAI

I have to confess, I went back and re-read that entire thread.
Guys, I'm TOTALLY lovin' the straight back gripped 4596s!!!!!
That's EXACTLY what I'm shooting for.
