I just got this SW1911 from Bud's and since there are not many reviews on this particular gun(S&W sku #108284)I thought I would give my initial impressions.
When I picked up the gun, it was very dry and very tight. At first I couldn't remove the recoil spring from the full length guide rod, which made it impossible to remove the barrel(I did manage to get it off when I got it home). After an initial clean and lube, it felt much better. Fit and finish were excellent. The front strap is checkered, but I prefer the finger grooves, so I added the Pearce front finger groove grips. The only real negative is that it has a 6˝lb trigger pull, which I will have my gunsmith lighten down to 3˝ to 4lbs.
Initial range report: The gun was shooting ~4" low, but after 12 clicks on elevation she was dead center. After 100 rounds of WWB and 15 rounds of Federal HST +P with zero FTF or FTE I am satisfied that this gun will out perform me once the trigger issue is resolved. Even with the heavy trigger I managed a fair, slightly less than 3" sixteen round group at 15yds(attached target).
As a range gun, this one is a keeper. I may get a match barrel and bushing later, but I will enjoy it as is for now.
