Another 2nd Gen rescue/restoration
After three years my rescue 659 is done. Numrich finally got
some more grip inserts in, and I got one.
This 659, while not a total basket case, was way messed up. The side plate and ejector was bent, and the slide stop plunger and
spring didn't work. It was missing the right side safety lever, and had a black plastic, (not arched), grip insert and Pachmyers.
I got it for a great price, and really wanted it because the finish
was almost perfect. So total disassembly, cleaning, smoothing,
new springs, and other parts, made it new again, and it matches
my once TOTAL basket case 639.

VERY nice indeed! I acquired a 659 in a trade recently. It's my time machine, taking me back to the 1980's, when I lusted for one, but couldn't afford it. The Glock 19 isn't going to be seeing much range time for the foreseeable future.

Two very nice Gen 2's! You did a great job on them. There is a 659 at a LGS that I have looked at. How does it shoot?

Thanks, and yes, they all function and shoot great. I have
"discovered" a whole new passion. Restoring otherwise messed
up, none working, but in great shape S&W 1st and 2nd Gen
pistols. They are cheap, and parts are available, (sometimes
it takes years), but they will always have a historical, intrinsic,
and monetary value. (And the S&W's I want now are in the
$1,200-$2,500+range.) Out of my league.
Here's another one that I saved. An early 439. The grips took
the longest to get, as I wanted ones that were aged but in real
good shape. The new grip insert took hours to fit.

I love 2nd Gen pistols. I recently bought a NIB 539, and got 3 original mags to match it. It's one of my EDC carry guns.
