**UPDATE**Model 41 - which ammo works best for you?
I just picked up an A series Model 41 from the early/mid 70s (I'll get my ship date request in as soon as I can), with a 5.5 inch barrel.
Wanted to ask the forum what target/match/std velocity ammo have people had the best success with? I do not intend to shoot any high velocity stuff out of it.
First trip to range tells me that it likes Federal Gold Medal Target, hates Wolf target std velocity, and gets along with CCI std velocity. Next up I'll be taking out some old Eley stuff I had laying around.
**Update: Who ever said that it wouldn't like Eley - You were 100% right, didn't like any flavor of Eley!
Tried Winchester target ammo rated at 1200fps, it was ok. But then I got around to CCI Green Tag (Found some on a trip to Erie, PA -> it loved it!
So, as long as I can find it, it will be CCI Green Tag all the way, followed by plain old CCI std velocity.

Plus 1. CCI Standard is THE ammo for 41s.In general, that Euro ammo is too mild to operate them.

Usually what works best for most of us is the CCI SV, then the Blazer in standard velocity as well as the Wolf brand also. Pretty well in that order as well.

CCI SV is the gold standard which most of us use.

Mine functions with most but I usually shoot CCI SV as it is priced well. SK + is a bit more accurate from a rest but off hand it does not make a difference at my skill level.

Most in my bullseye pistol league shooting 41s use CCI SV. Actually, most everyone uses CCI SV.

Add a recoil buffer and shoot what ever you want

Been using Super X HV and CCI Blazer HV in mine since the early 1980's, shoots great, never broke a part, just replace the recoil spring once a year or so with the factory replacement.

When my model 41 was new, 20 years ago, it liked CCI SV. Now, for some reason, it only works great with Remington Golden Bullet. It seems to need a little extra "kick" to cock it. Good enough for me.

Why do you replace the recoil spring? Thanks.

My fifty eight year old Model 41 really likes CCI SV ammo. Tried other brands, but nothing is as consistent as CCI.

Mine shoots best with Wolf Match Extra but since the price has gone crazy high and it's very had to find, I'm using CCI SV like many others here. Besides even with my second pick ammo, the M41 is still far more accurate than I can shoot anyway so why buy expensive match ammo?

Joe the recoil spring cycles thousands of times in its lifetime and gets tired is why it loses its strength. Could be the reason why your gun switched brands on you.

Joe, I shoot my 41 a lot, maybe 5000 rds a year, so I replace the recoil spring as a precaution to insure it keeps working just fine.
I do the same thing with my 1911's, S&W 3rd gens, any gun that has a recoil spring.

Thanks (you too, Barrie). Where should I get a new spring?

CCI SV functions 100% in my model 41 and is far more accurate than I can hold. Other more expensive target ammunition may well be better but my personal skill level can't take advantage of it so why bother?
