Default 3rd Gens at a gun show

I went to what I'd call a medium sized gunshow this morning. Not all that far from my house, so I took a friend and went.

As I always do, I look to see what's available in the way of 3rd Gen guns. I also see some 2nd Gen guns, but I know less about them, and generally am less interested.

Here is what I saw.

A couple of 457s hovering around $450.00 or so. A Zander for about $540.00. Nice, but a bit above what I think market is.

A couple of 3913s at around $590.00. Nice, but gun and one mag only, so I thought a bit high.

One dealer had a about half a dozen separate models. A 4536 (at least that is what the tag said, but I thought it had a frame mounted decocker), 4003 and a 4046, a 6906, a 469, and I think a full size 9mm, but I forget which variation.

One dealer had a 4006TSW in nice condition for about $475.00.

I think the start of the show was a Shorty 40 Mark3s. I only saw one magazine, no box, but the gun itself looked to be in good condition. Asking was $1,000.00. I don't know much of anything about the Shorty 40, so I don't know if that was good, high, or what. I have that dealers name and location (not in MA) if anyone is interested in contacting them about it.

That should used to be in Boston, and at one time provided reloads to Boston PD for range use. The previous Mayor ran them out of town back about 10 years ago.

I found a used 3913 magazine for $15.00, which might have been the bargain of the show. At least for me.

Of course, these are gun show prices, so a visit to the store with cash in hand might result in better pricing.

So, there are still some decent 3rd Gen guns out there, even if they are a bit pricey.

There were magazines as well. One guy had 3913 mags for $40.00 each. He had a couple of .40 yellow follower 11 round mags, not LE marked, for $25.00. Decent price, but since I don't have any .40 guns, not for me.

I was at a large show last week, 1500 tables. I wasn't looking for guns, just odds and ends. Didn't even bring a lot of money. 3rd gens were scattered about everywhere. I didn't check if they were PD or civilian. Didn't take note of what models and how many but prices hovered around $300 - $600. The one that stuck out was a 5906TSW rail for $299. Didn't look bad from the case

I see the 3913's seem to be increasing and not surprised to see these prices at a gun show. Wow $40 for a magazine sounds high to this cheapskate. Was hoping you would see a couple of the CS-9 series. Love to see the prices on them but probably similar to the $590 price range. Pays to go if just to see the prices for a laugh. Thanks for the info.

No CS series guns at all.

$40.00 for a used magazine is Ebay high. I didn't tell the guy about the $15.00 magazine in my pocket.

He had three OEM 59xx magazines for $50.00/each.

The .40 magazines were the bargain. I saw those at a couple of tables, but the only thing I looked at was to see if any of them could be converted to 10mm. Which these particular ones couldn't.

I think I forgot to mention the $625.00 915 or the 411. I think the 411 was in the high $400.00 range, but I'm not sure. Looked clean, but again I'm not a .40 guy.

I also did some looking at revolvers, particularly Mdl 34. Those seem high, but give me a place from which to start. I can always lower the price, but it's hard to raise it. Well, not if you're a gun show dealer.

Wonder what would have happened if you offered the guy 25 bucks for the 40$ magazines

I'd likely get a speech about how "rare and hard to find" they are.

I didn't even need the $15.00 one, but at that price, I couldn't leave it on the table. Some people are just more aware of the market than others. $15.00 was a give away, $40.00 is exorbitant, even for new in box ones.

Might try a show this summer. Should be one coming in June to the W. Springfield I believe. Usually have a lot of mil-surp stuff. In the meantime I will hold onto my CS-9 mags. LOL

My son is moving to the Charlotte area later this spring. With luck, one of my visits will coincide with a show in the area.

You bought that one magazine just so I wouldn't get it! And now watch... you're going to use it in MY railed 3913TSW (the one you practically stole from me!). 10 minutes Dude!!! 10 minutes!!!

Seriously, thanks for the show report. Now, I don't have to go. You just saved me $11.00 plus gas. I can almost afford that magazine you bought with my windfall savings!

Anyway, sounds like all the same guns that were at Marlboro and Wilmington before that. Nothing that screams: "BUY ME"!

I went pre-ban magazine hunting again today deep down into Little Rhody. Came home with very close to nothing... but at least I'm not paying very much for the mags I found either.

Ha!!!!!

Well, I'll tell ya Bam... one of the things I did today in my travels was to corner a Sig factory rep at one shop (they were having a big "grand re-opening" celebration event) for a nice 15-minute discussion about the next Sig I should acquire. Actually, it was a much wider scope "hands-on" discussion of their entire all-metal pistol line... more info than I really needed and far more than I can cover here. That actually took place after an earlier visit to a Sig specialty dealer with the biggest display of Sig products this side of Pennsylvania!

Bottom line: Yes Bam, I *am* working on it!

I did buy it, but to be fair I DID leave the $40.00 ones for you.

I've never been to a gun shop in Rhode Island. I don't know why, other than I've never thought of it.

The lady from the shop with all of the 3rd Gens said that they were in Marshfield, but I can't find an FFL there by the name she told me. I wonder if she and her husband just travel from show to show with a display case of overpriced guns.

I've seen them at other shows with similar guns at similar prices.

Nothing screamed "Buy Me", but if I was into 40s, I'd have had a conversation with the owner about the Shorty 40.
Then again, if I wanted to pay that kind of money for a shooter grade gun, I'd travel north and talk to the shop about the 547 (not 457) they have listed for $1249.00. Too much for a shooter and too much for a gun to just sit in my safe between cuddling sessions!

Well, I can tell you that there are damn few 3rd Gens for sale down in Little Rhody... just a 4516-1 for $499 and a two-tone 411 for $399 (both consignment guns). That is it my friend. And I've now covered 87.5% of the state's gun shops.

The guy from Marshfield is on GunsAmerica with all of his over-priced (albeit pristine) stuff... and you are correct that he doesn't have a regular retail shop. I can PM you his GA ID, but it's pretty easy to figure out.

$50 for factory 59XX mags? Has he never heard of retail Mec Gars for half that? Probably came off the same stampers and shears.

Maybe more folks holdin onto those Third Gens. today TTSH. Plenty of tupperware but all metal models seem pretty scarce to me also. Been seeing this more with all firearms I grew up seeing and took for granted. Right now I would be happy to find a Remington 1100 20 gauge. Pickins are few and far between.

Oh, Tupperware is everywhere! God help us if "Global Warming" actually happens someday because all those cheap, disposable Tupperware guns are going to melt and they are all going to be worthless.

We're in MA, where 10 rounds is still the law unless you can glom on to pre ban standard capacity magazines.

It seems odd to people in other states, but from what I've seen over the past few elections, you folks in WA state will be in for a similar experience soon.

Fortunately for us, unlike some other states, older magazines are grandfathered in.

What is this "ban" you speak of? The one that went away a few years ago? You might want to remind your lawmakers that they work for YOU.

What can I say? GaryS and I live in a loony moonbat anti-2A state. As much as we fight, the 'bats have us greatly out-numbered.

I see that you live in a loony moonbat state too, but the current proposal before your legislature to limit you folks to 10-round magazines is apparently going to die in committee.

Your luck is holding out, at least for now.

BTW, $50 is high. It won't sell. I've paid anywhere from $10 each up to a max of 2/$75 (for brand new still in package) and everything in-between depending on my "desperation factor" for that particular day. A good average is probably $20-25 each for used ones in decent shape.

Yep. Even though they are back to the regular price, they are new, not used. And still NOT $50.00.

I found him there. Apparently, he brought most of his stock with him to the show. It's weird that he had the 915 listed for about $50.00 more than he had the 5904 listed for. His stuff is good, but without the boxes, magazines, and other accessories, their value is limited because they are shooters, not collector pieces.

Fun to look at at the shows, but nothing that I would buy.

Didn't look bad from the case

Oaks show I am assuming based on your location - I skipped this one, but that price you report on the 5906 tsw would have tempted me. Oh well, next one!

Your luck is holding out, at least for now.
They tasted success with the initiative (majority rules) process, and proved you can spend millions on political ads and dupe the urban population. You only need to carry the 84 square miles of Seattle to impose your will on the 71,000 square miles of the state.

Exactly how NYC rules/runs roughshod over the other 95+% land mass that's called New York State. Most of the state pols come from the city and are elected by the folks living in NYC, LI and a few close northern counties.
The vast majority of NYS is rural, and the % of red neck and hillbilly, and overall gun owners rivals any other state.

Thumbs down

What gets me are the prices of the LE trade in 5906. Back in December 2012 I bought a hand select LE trade in 5906 with (3) magazines for $275 + shipping.
I was at my local pawn shop about 2 weeks ago and saw a few LE trade in 5906's starting at $450 with only (1) magazine. And, they looked as if they were dragged behind the police cruisers.

Not at all uncommon, but I don't want to drift into political talk in an otherwise nice thread.
