5946
LGS has a 5946 for sale at $429. Good shape but nowhere near mint. Is this a fair price? I wouldn't mind having it but seems a bit steep to me.

I think it is......
Third gens are getting harder to find and parts are not made for them. It's a damn shame. Of course I'd like to get the price down, but I don't think that's too unreasonable.

I see them in around that price , but its not out of line . They dont make them like that any more I have a mint 5946 that came from New York I think it was a NYPD gun. also got the issue black Cobra thumb brake holster for the 5646 with it . That type of gun seems to just keep going up any more.

The gun would have to be mint, in the box and with 3 magazines for that to be a good deal for me. That being said prices vary with regions. $350-375 seems about normal for a good 5906 which is the more common variant.
5906 Police Trade-ins $375.
I found a BNIB 5946 last year and paid $300 for it.

Wow!!!
Why don't those prices ever happen to me?
Anyway, I'm more a fan of the Model 5943 (own two of them) due to the lighter weight. One shooter and one pristine safe queen.

I just bought new old stock 5946 from Cabellas for $550. Now their website lists them for $799 which I still think is a good price for a new in box 5946.
The gun has fresh (2014) night sights and three 15 round factory magazines. The factory fired shell case is in a sealed envelope dated 2014 as well.
I consider this a great addition to my collection I have a very good condition model 59 no dash so I've got the Smith & Wesson semi-auto "Super Nines" from start to finish.
I'll probably leave the 5946 unfired as I have plenty of shooters.
Two 915s, one for the range and one for carry.

THOUGH I AM NOT A FAN OF THE DAO VARIANTS FRIEND, I TOO THINK THAT PRICES WILL BE GOING UP FROM NOW ON. SO, IT ALL COMES DOWN TO "HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT ONE?" BESIDES, MONEY COMES AND GOES. READING THROUGH THIS FORUM, QUITE A FEW PEOPLE ADMIT THAT THEY WANT TO KICK THEM SELVES FOR LETTING A GUN PASS, OR SELLING SOMETHING THAT THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE. NOT MANY HOWEVER SEEM TO REGRET PAYING ABOUT A DINNERS WORTH OVER THE ESTIMATED VALUE. AS FOR THE BOX, UNLESS YOU CARE FOR COLLECTORS VALUE, I PERSONALLY COULD NOT CARE LESS. I AM WITH THOSE FEW THAT STILL SEE THESE GUNS AS WORKHORSES, NOT SAFE QUEENS
