Where to get an appraisal. Fairly rare 1026 civilian model
First off....this is my first post so hello.
I am the original owner of a 1026 10mm decocker. I bought it brand new as my duty weapon in 1992. I have the original box, receipt, etc. and the gun is in very very good condition.
I found some info that just over 3000 1026's were manufactured and most of those went to the Pennsylvania State Police. These were LEO models that would fire with the mag removed. Mine will not so Im wondering if its fairly rare and should be appraised.
If someone could point me in the right direction, I would gretaly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Chris

I'm not an appraiser but those guns sell very fast in the $1000-$1500 range depending on condition, magazines, box etc. There is one for sale on the major auction site that has been relisted several times with no bids. Starts at $2000 with a buy now of $2400. I'm still still kicking myself for passing on a 1076 at $900 last year.
And welcome to the forum. Spend much time here and you'll end up spending money on Smith and Wesson guns you didn't even know you wanted.

Just going through the box I even have the original wax paper and trigger plug.
Somehow I ended up with a 1026 and almost everyone else at my department ended up with a 1076. My 1026 shoots very nice. Im a bigger guy at 6'4" 250 lbs and had problems with my thumb interfering with the slide lock on the smaller guns, Glocks, etc. I think that why I ended up with the large frame. My hands are bigger than Trumps :-)

Why not go and list it for sale here. Be reasonable and you'll sell it by tomorrow I'd bet.

Don't sell a duty weapon. You'll regret it. I let one get away.

An FFL I used to work with was also a certified appraiser. Call around to some of the nicer gun shops you should find an appraiser. I think he charged $45-$50 dollars and type it up, a paragraph about the gun and condition and accessories and of course value.

I assume you want a written appraisal, but I don't know where you are located or if you are willing to ship the gun. I would suggest that if you find a local appraiser, you inform him of the gun's low production numbers, current sales numbers (from GB completed sales) and any other information that would lead you to believe that it could be something out of the ordinary. I know several good gun appraisers in my area (Eastern MA/RI), but very few who would do proper justice to you on a Model 1026.

Thanks.
I guess maybe I should get a production number on it from S&W.

Welcome to the forum!!! I sold my 1026 for $1100, no box & 2 mags about 5 months ago. As stated above they range $1000-1500. With you being the original owner, box etc....IMO $1300-1500
Cheers!!!

I have three 1026's, two will fire with magazine removed, Virginia State Police models. The other is civilian model. I do not believe that one is worth more than the other. Agree the value is 1100-1500 bucks. Definitely a keeper..

I thought most 1026's were Virginia State Police guns. I know mine was VSP. Got mine about 2 1/2 years ago. Just the gun with one mag and non-matching box for $825.

Seeing your 1026 is in great shape, insurance pricing is not likely to match prices being fetched on the auctions. As mentioned earlier $1100 - $1500 is reasonable and if you were selling it, it could easily bring those numbers or slightly more to the right buyer. These are very well made firearms for the caliber...

If you are looking for an apprasal for homeowners, I would think again. Do you really want them to know what you have? I insure mine through the NRA. The way I figure it, why have non gun people knowing what you have, and who knows who they sell that info to. Sorry if I sound like one of them, but I am reading Unintended Consequences for about the third time over the years. Look it up.

This is gonna make you sick, I just paid $550 for a 1076 in mint condition with 2 mags, no box in January. Not to rub it in, but I'll post some pictures if you're interested.
