Default Question about a S&W 4040

Hey I have a question yesterday I picked up a very nice 4040
The gun has the box and all the stuff
My question is that this gun is a 2 tone black lower and the SS slide (silver color) Was this a distrubutor run or something a bit unique. The 4040s I have seem have been black on black

The Mod is 4040 not 4040pd
and the slide has no writing on it

Its really in nice shape

It looks like an extra magazine will not be too easy to find,am I wrong? (I hope)

If some one can share info I would apreciate it

Thanks Hank

Product code 104414

The picture in the Standard guide of S&W shows a black slide
I am not sure exactly what that means but...

The product code is normal for a 4040PD, and it is also normal for the frame to be marked with only a 4040 as the model number. I would say that a previous owner polished / removed the blueing from the slide and levers, which also removed the laser 'Air Lite PD' markings from the slide. Likely it will affect re-sale value a bit, but then again these are rare pistols that do sometimes sell for high prices. I say it makes it a good candidate for carry though.

PM'd you with some extra mag info.

But it looks like a stainless steel slide. wasn't the 4040PD carbon steel? Perhaps a 3913 slide?

I think it may be difficult to tell just based on the appearance if it's carbon or stainless steel, but I'm leaning towards a re-finished carbon steel slide rather than a 3913 slide. The 4040PD has the fatter TSW rails (it's basically a non-TSW gun with all the characteristics of a TSW gun), which would mean that a 3913TSW slide could work with it. No pics of the top of the barrel, but if it says '40 S&W' then it's likely a 4040PD slide, or possibly a 4013TSW slide.

Hmmmm....I just picked up a 4040 just like the one in question. It is two tone. Silver slide and the black scandium alloy frame marked 4040. Mine appears unfired and has the original box with all the stuff inside.
