Picked up a 2206. Cleaned it and shot with with Winchesters. Every 3 or 4th round stove piped.

Brought it home, cleaned the snot out of it, and replaced the spring with new one.

Went back to the range and brought better Winchester ammo (can't remember which one), CCI, and Browning ammo as well.

The Winchester (changed to Federal Premium Match) kept stove piping. @5-6 stovepipes per 36 rounds

The CCI worked the best with the least amounts if any- @ 1 stovepipe per 36 rounds.

The Browning worked second best- @ 2 stovepipes per 36 rounds.

Is it the ammo or should I have something looked at on my 2206?

You don't indicate which spring you replaced, or whether the ammunition was standard or high velocity.

If it is previously owned, I would look closely at the magazine(s), in terms of dirt, damage, and the spring, and install a new recoil spring if you haven't already done so.

New recoil spring replaced. 3 of the 4 magazines used were new.

I will check on the ammo velocity when I get to the boxes in my pack.

My 2206 is picky about ammo. I use mostly Federal AutoMatch

Ammo used as and I need to edit out Winchester and replace with Federal:

Federal Premium Match .22 LR 40 gr solid Standard Velocity

CCI Standard Velocity 40 gr lead round nose

Browning BPR .22 40 gr target & hunting, with what looks to be Standard Velocity

Did you try a different magazine?

I suspect you replaced the recoil spring? What weight?

CCI tends to be higher velocity, I'm shooting in the dark here, but I suspect the recoil spring is too heavy. You could easily do some testing on this by taking your old spring, and cutting a few coils off of it. Test, and if it still does it, cut a few more. Obviously the spring weight isn't changing, but the length is, so it will change the function a little.

Beyond that I would check the condition of your ejector, then your extractor.

If the recoil spring weight is the culprit, changing over to some high velocity ammunition may solve the problem.

If the gun functions with the high velocity ammo, and you would rather use standard velocity, Wolff offers several "reduced power" recoil springs as an alternative to the 6lb factory spring. Perhaps substituting a slightly lighter spring would solve the issue. This would be an alternative to cutting the new, existing spring.

I suggested he cut his old spring, wouldn't be smart to cut the new one.

Happened with both old recoil spring and the new standard rate spring .
