Default S&W 1911 Performance Center scandium

I'm thinking about this one; the scandium frame, lightening cuts on the slide, commander length.

Is the scandium / aluminum alloy appreciably more durable than a typical aluminum 1911 frame? How does this gun hold up over the long run, and has anyone got one that they can comment on?

Many thanks.

I wouldn't let the Sc/Al alloy frame cause you any concern. S&W has been using it for many years in far more powerful guns than the 45ACP.

I not aware of any founded issues with it & I have (7) Sc/Al framed guns.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it if you get it.

Loved mine until the ejector came loose after first -200 rounds. Traded it on a Dan Wesson and am a lot happier.

I am now at ~2k rounds through mine (the all black one). Been flawless except for some junk low-power ammo I tried.
No signs of any abnormal wear.
Don't let the scandium scare you.

Well, I guess it's a matter of perspective. A steel-framed match gun can digest anywhere between 35,000 and 60,000 rounds before it needs a refit and rebuild. That's more than most people will ever put through a single gun in their lives, but for others, it's about a year.

I doubt you'll have a problem.
