Default My first 3rd gen

So I've bought myself my first 3rd gen, it's a 3914 I picked up from a pawn shop. I'm not sure if I did good or not but I've only ever seen 2 of the 3913 for sale and the first one was what got me interested and the more I looked for one the more I wanted one. I realized real quick how much people loved them and how much they wanted for them! Other than some wear in the anodizing and being really dirty (to me) I think it's a decent one and looking for someone to hard coat anodize the frame. So I would like your opinion on this $400 deal, I got it with just one mag and no box or papers. ( all pics are as I got it, took it apart to clean and lube.)

A few pictures would help quantify if you did good or not! Factory box? Manual? How many magazines?
It all contributes to the value and how well you did.

Default Any third gen....

Any third gen is a good third gen. They don't make them any more, I wish they still did and so do a lot of people. I'd like to expand my collection of one.

Ive always liked the looks of them and then the 3913 really stood out to me, but then I learned of the 3914 and this one popped up locally.

I think it looks great and wouldn't have anyone touch the finish on it. It's in fine condition and IMHO any finish work would be diminishment. I don't have a 3914 but I have 3913's and a 3954. Also a 6904 that I really like.

This may be your first 3rd gen but I guarantee it will NOT be your last. While these few in this pic may seem like a fair number it's nothing compared to the collections some members here have amassed. Enjoy.

Those are some nice pistols! I always liked the look of the smith autos but have never shot or owned one, I really like this 3914 and will see how it turns out after a good cleaning. You are probably right about it not being my last because the same addiction happened with my 1911's.

I'm mostly a stainless steel guy when it comes to 3rd Gen collecting... ... but I wouldn't mess around with trying to get that black frame re-anodized. That's an expense your pistol doesn't appear to need from the pix you posted and I'm told that the re-anodizing process will weaken the alloy frame slightly.

I only wanting it redone bc I'm ocd about wanting it perfect but also like projects with character. My plan for now is to clean it up real good and put a set of hogue's on it then enjoy. The first 3913 I ever seen was a local small dealer that posted one for sale for a good price but I didn't know anything about them and didn't have the money right then so it sold quick! The second was at a gun show and they were asking $650+tax and I thought that was kinda high so I passed. I then came across a 908 and while looking up info I came across the 3914 and as much as I like stainless I like a black pistol so while looking at local ads I came across a new posting by a pawn shop not to far from my work for the 3914 for $450+tax and the next day on my lunch break I went in and asked if they would do $400 OTD so home it went with me.

Treat yourself and get a set of Hogue checkered wood grips for that gun.....you won't regret it!!!!

I like lighter wood on these blue/black guns.... Your taste may vary.

$400.00 for that gun is a very decent price. I wouldn't do more than clean it up, lube the rails a bit, replace the recoil spring, and shoot it.

I got it all lubed/ greased and assembled. Whoever had it before me let it get really dirty, there was sand in the grips. Now that it's al cleaned and lubed it cycles really smooth. I plan to take it out and shot it soon.

If I saw that for $400 I'd buy it.

If I owned it, you couldn't buy it from me for $400.

That 3914 looks very nice to me. You should enjoy shooting it - my 3913 is a joy to shoot and accurate too.

Interesting how dirt/sand infiltrated under the grips, which you can see in the marks in the black under where the grips normally are. Reason enough to take the grips off a 3d Gen once in a while and clean the whole gun (not something I am prone to do, but a good idea).

As for price, I would pay $400 for that pistol and consider it a good deal.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I got my only third Gen a few years ago for $375 (dealer was asking $450) and you can't find them in decent shape anywhere near that price today. This was 98% with 2 mags, no box/papers.

Thanks for all the assurance and info. At first after taking it apart I had some buyers remorse because I tend to be really picky about wear and tear but it has grown on me the more I read and the more I handle it, it helps with others saying it was a good or decent price.

You have a great pistol there at a very reasonable price. Some believe that the 3913/3914 is the best concealed carry pistol ever made. I am in that camp.
