Too easy.

If anything, it sounds like a scam.

Okay, more answer is in order. Round trigger is more scarce and means an earlier gun. Fixed sight is typically more sought after and likely more attractive to most folks since the adjustable sight is train-wreck ugly.

I truly don't know what one man's "excellent+" actually means as a grade (can't be sure of his scale or his ability to properly and accurately grade a firearm truly is) but I can say that even a beat-up and scraped up 639 that is completely functional is worth $300 in any market I have ever been in.

So yes, $300 is likely a low price for that.

I have the gun in hand, so it's not a scam. ( The owner has his sales receipt from purchase new)
I normally collect pre-war (WW2), and the more modern guns are outside my area of expertise. Truthfully I would rate this gun in the high 90's, near like new.

I'd be all over it at that price. I have the three Benjamins in my pocket right now.

On Gunbroker, if it had original box and the papers and such that came with it, I would expect that to have the potential for $750 and beyond.

To my eye the 39/639 is the most elegant pistol S&W ever produced, particularly the fixed sight round trigger guard version. I agree with the previous post that beat up functional x39s are common in the $300 price range. If this one is in high 90s condition it would be worth it. If you decide it doesn't fit your collection you should have no trouble selling it later.

I would jump at it. 639 round trigger guard pistols are arguably the most beautiful pistols made. And they shoot!

I bought a 639 in the configuration you describe about a yr and a half ago except that it's a bit beat and was purchased for a project. Not 90% for sure and the right side safety lever is missing. I paid $450 for it and that's the best deal I've seen on one for quite some time. I can't imagine any 639 selling in the 300 range,......not even a parts kit with no frame.

1/2 price,......buy it.

Well, I now own it!
Turns out it is an early (1983) production and it came with an extra set of Pachmayr Signature grips w/backstrap and 2 mags. Condition is easily in the 90% plus but no paper or box.

Now all I have to do is try to figure out how it will fit my collection. (I collect guns older than me and I'm pre-WW2. )

I guess it will always make good trading stock......

I'm greedier than that....

I would rather work out a trade or partial trade for something I collect. That way I can counter the other party that their gun is just like mine... (Not worth as much as they seem to think..)

Wouldn't happen to have a M1917 (Military, un-molested, not Brazillian) or a German Reichsrevolver would you??

Well, if you are like me, you start buying more 2nd gen semi-autos. All of my Smiths are revolvers, until I posted a question here about a M39. A member pm'ed me and said he had a M639 in the box he'd sell me. Then I found a M645 here in the for sale section. Then I found a M659 on GB. Came with everything, even had the original bill of sale. Now I am looking for a M745, and the gentleman who sold me the M639 has offered me a M52. Who knows where else I am going, but man, I have the fever bad.
