Default Mag well for the S&W 4006

The Performance Center 4006 Tactical and limited have a mag well that looks pretty sweet.

Does anyone know where to buy one that could be installed on a standard 4006 frame?

While I’m asking questions. Does anyone know where to get +2 extended bases for the 4006 magazines?

Hi Jim,

I think the mag bases you refer to are the CP bases that the Performance Center uses. They are had to get...but they pop up here and there...I had a few for sale, but sold them all...(still have some for .45/10mm full size in the classified section )

Some pics that maybe can help you in your search...

you can dye them black using RIT synthetic dye...(clean them with Hopes 9 after for a near perfect color match).

hope this helps...

I believe the OP is asking about these little gems:

They are rarer than hens teeth now, I found mine many years ago at a now out of business website called Speed Shooter Specialties that had some Performance Center parts.... in retrospect, I wish I had also bought one of the Performance Center Briley barrel bushings they had.

As you can see in the bottom pic, the frame on a PC pistol has a wider opening so there is a space for the legs on the magwell to straddle the grip. The pin that retains the grip also retains the magwell, which has to be drilled for the pin.

Is the grip pin the only thing that keeps them in place?

Agree on the mag wells being unobtainium. But I am pretty sure you can get a Briley bushing in any size you need here: Briley MFG - 1911 Auto Spherical Ring Only

I have been told by a prominent gunsmith that these will work in the PC guns.

Just a small note of detail… those CP magazine bases are not plus-2, they just provide a big bumper to help seat a magazine when you are using one of the PC guns that does have the excruciatingly rare magazine funnel.

Which btw are more than just the .40cal PC guns. The PPC-9 pistols and WISCHO Target Champion 9mm guns also had them and the 3566 Limited has one also.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, I would be shocked if you were able to find one.

Mec-Gar does make +2 flush fitting mags for the 5906 which I assume works through baseplate and follower trickery. I wonder if you could 3D print something that could squeeze an extra round into a 4006 tube though maybe not since it already seems to be pushing it with 11.

Yes... the legs go into the slots on either side of the grip and extend up where the pin will go through them once the hole in each leg is drilled.

In this pic you can see the leg through the grip retaining pin hole where it needed to be drilled.
