Model 41 production year
Hi All,
I am a new member. I just purchased an older model 41 that is serial number 71XXX no A prefix. Can anyone tell me the year this pistol was made? Thank you!

Welcome to the S&W Forum. Congratulations. The Model 41 is a fine .22 semi-auto pistol.
The SCSW (Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson) 4th edition lists:
1954 - serial # starts at 1001
1970 - serial # goes up to 115000
A reasonable guess for 71XXX might be about mid 1960's?
The best way to be most certain of the date of a S&W product is to request "a letter" which is another subject/post in itself.
Hopefully members of the Forum will be able to provide serial numbers and dates either side of your serial number to help hone in on the date of your Model 1941.

Most likely it’s a 1966 model.
But S&W is well known for not shipping in serial number sequence. For example #70997 was shipped in Oct 1964 but #71041, only 44 numbers difference, was shipped 21 months later in July 1966.
