New member, new 4566 owner
Hey all,
My wish list has included a 3rd gen Smith for a while now, I recently found one in pretty good shape at a gun show for a price I was willing to pay.
So I picked up this 4566, came with two factory mags. I got a chance to shoot it a little, just 50 rounds, but I like it.

Welcome to the forum and a big congrats to you on acquiring your 4566! The condition looks excellent. The 3rd Gen 45s are legendary, especially around here. Their accuracy and reliability are superb. I own the 4506, 4566 and the 4516 and of the three, my favorite is the full size 4506. My accuracy greatly improved with the addition of Hogue rubber grips. The originals were just too flat and did not fill my palm as much as the Hogues do. Might be something for you to consider after you become familiar with your 4566. Yes, indeed, a really great pick-up.

I was thinking it's too bad that VZ doesn't make anything for these guns.

If you want to see G10 grips for the 3rd gen guns, Email Hogue grips.
The owner is a member on another board. He makes G10 grips for some ofthe revolvers and said they may make them for the 3rd gen guns if enough interest is shown. Regards 18DAI

CONGRATS ON YOUR 4566 FRIEND. IN TERM OF GRIPS, THE FACTORY USED TO SHIP THESE OUT WITH EITHER THE STRAIGHT BACKSTRAP LIKE YOURS, OR THE CURVED ONE. (YES, BACKSTRAP CHOICE DECADES BEFORE IT WAS EVEN A THING LOL) AND FROM TIME TO TIME EITHER KIND MIGHT SURFACE WITH ONLINE VENDORS. ALSO HOGUE HAS A FEW CHOICES IN VARIOUS WOODS OR RUBBER, AS WELL AS KSD GRIPS. PERHAPS OTHERS TOO, THAT I AM UNAWARE OF THEM.

I bought mine when they came out new.
About a million rounds later it is still going strong. You made a good buy there.

Welcome aboard.
Congrats on the 4566.
If you don't mind me offering a thought, the long stainless frame rails of the 4566/4566TSW/4506 like to be lubed.
I told our guys & gals to think of them as lubing a 1911 or a SIG, meaning a little "wet", but not running and dripping off, or running down and contaminating the inside of the frame.
