.22 Target Pistol Model 41
A friend of mine is selling his Model 41, new with original grease and box. The serial number is A 138 651, FIN-B, PNS-B. Does anyone know what the manufacture date is? Approximate is OK. Thank you. (I'd upload a picture, but can't figure out how to do it.)

According to SWSC #4 your serial number would be 1970 - 1971
They show numbers starting with A115001 and ending in A156801.
I'm sure someone will be along who can pin it down even further than that.
My 1959 model is a real tack driver but it doesn't like anything other than CCI SV ammo.

Don't think twice on this one. Grab it is fast as you can. It's one of the finest 22LR pistols to shoot.

A 138651 probably about mid 1972 but Jinks/S&W for your ship date.

I love my Model 41. As they have already said, they are a joy to shoot and far more accurate than I will ever be. You didn't say what barrel length is has on it but if you can afford it, grab it quick. You won't regret it.

If you've got the desire for one, it wouldn't be the worst buy in the world.
The only caveat I would put in place is that, if I'm remembering correctly, S&W didn't drill and tap the Model 41 for another couple decades. If that's the case, and you ever wanted to use a red dot or scope (I shudder every time someone puts a magnifying scope on a M41), you'd be looking at either having someone put a couple holes in a classic gun, or laying out a few hundred bucks for a replacement barrel.
It'll be accurate, but it's not like there are too many target blowback .22s that aren't. The 41 has a very good trigger and an excellent action.

10 days later and the OP hasn't been back.
On the off chance he does return, determining whether he should buy the pistol depends on how much his 'friend' is asking for. It's hard to make a recommendation without knowing the price.

He could have at least changed the grease.

Well, there are target pistols I flat-out wouldn't recommend buying, and quirks and hidden costs on others (i.e.--fragile $50 magazines, a chamber that will only feed $600/case European match ammo, etc).

If he has any smarts at all he will buy it as it will probably shoot as good as my 1958 year m41. WE all know how great these 41's actually are. Yes CCI ammo only is the recommended ammo for these pistols and has been for many years.
