I Didn't Want to, but I did it [PICKED UP 915/PHOTOS & RANGE REPORT ADDED]
[Update with photos added below at post #7 and #10] So, I went to pick up a pistol that I purchased earlier (California 10 day wait). While the dealer is in the back fetching my new pistol, I see a 915 on consignment in the counter that was not there a few days earlier. After completing the paperwork on the pistol I was picking up, I had thedealer show me the 915.I examine it,field strip it, examine it again. I’m holding a 99% 1994 Model 915. From the wear (or lack of it), I figure it had 3 to 4 boxes of ammo run through it.
So, I now own another 99% Model 915. I don’t need it nor did I originally intend to buy it, and yet, here I am . . . with it. I guess I’m just a sucker for those lovely 99%+ S&W 3rd Gen autos.

Congrats..........Over the past 24 years I've bought 4 915s ( sold one to a good friend who "needed" a hi-cap 9mm for IIRC; Y2K)....... only meant to buy the first one (new)...... the other three were "used" and just to nice and/or too cheap to leave behind.......
LOL One can always use another "Truck/cabin/hard use" Smith.....................
Unless you want adjustable sights there's no reason to pay $100-150 maybe more for a 59xx.

Umm no, sorry, 915's are great but let's not ever forget the instrinsic value of a real STEEL frame.
Alloy frames do phenomenally well in proper roles and sometimes that role is better than a steel frame... but definitely not for me and my cache of S&W pistols. And this comes from a guy who owns a pair of 915's, most definitely not a hater.
When we can have a discussion of great 915's that don't need to reference or attempt to "one-up" the 5906, I'll be more than happy to quit playing defense in the discussions... haha. Until then, I'll keep being "that one guy..."

[RANGE REPORT JUST ADDED @ #10 BELOW] Well, after the 30 day hold placed on a dealer before he can release a firearm on consignment and the 10 day hold on all firearm purchases in California, I picked up my new 1994 Model 915 earlier today. Here is a photo I just took of both the 1994 915 I already had and the new addition. The new addition is on top with the straight grip. I have a curved grip on the one I purchased back in 2008. Both pistols are 99% condition. However, based on a side by side comparison, I would say internally the new addition is 99%++.

Nice catch... I have owned most of the plastic M&Ps but I still love the 3rd gen ones best.

[NEW RANGE REPORT] I took both pistols to the range. The older one (to me) shot as expected. I was disappointed in the first three magazines out of the new addition. The groups were too large and way too far left for me. So, I reminded myself to stop thinking about the fact that this new one has a straight grip and worrying about how to hold it. Just shoot the darn thing. The following two magazines showed great improvement, and the two magazines after that resulted in the two targets below. Still a little left, but only about 3/8" to 1/2".

I remember the day 915 were kind of scorned ...... even here ..... as cheap versions of good Smith 59xx's....some of us defended the 915 ...... much to our long term detriment........... as I haven't seen one for sale in years around here!!!!!!
