10mm to 40cal
New member, please be patient with me ! Replaced my 1076 mag springs with new ones but they are not as strong as originals. So I tried my mag springs on my 4043 11rd. 40cal springs. The 1076 mags accepted the 4043 springs and I could load up all 9, 10mm rounds in it. The 4043 mag springs were much stronger and all most identical to the 1076 springs. Question; am I asking for trouble or have I found a better spring for my S&W 1076.

A double-stack (11) round spring in a single-stack (9) round mag !? I'd say you stumbled. Don't fall.
Get the proper magazine spring for it. They're no problem finding. Wolff GunSprings has them available, either +5% or +10% extra power (I've settled on the +5% for me).
Magazine Spring
For Use in: 1006, 1026, 1066, 1076 and 1086 - 10mm (9 round)
Wolff Gunsprings - S&W Semiauto

^^^ What he said....
Get an Uplula loader, a Caldwell or something similar to help get the full number of rounds into a mag with a tough spring.
BTW. Have a Hound Dawg Howdy from SC.

Thanks guys , I guess I was trying to re-invent the wheel. Buy the way S&W told me my 1076 was a recalled pistol and to send it in , which I did yesterday. Mine has a the markings of a FBI model, even has the two marks under the decocker. I always thought the two marks meant it already HAD been sent back!?? #TFS 47xx . Any help on this one?

Me too. They didn't give you any specifics on exactly why they wanted it returned to them?
Do a search on 1076 FBI & you'll find a bunch of threads here. My 1076 is not a FBI pistol so I don't have that info at hand.

Did they polish the internals or that kind of thing, etc. Also how long did it take to get it back? Thank you!

What markings are FBI markings?
Mine has the warning about it being able to fire without the mag, but it's not an FBI gun. Mine was Virginia State Police.
The Wolff springs are great; I bought a ten-pack for my magazines.
I think the recall was for the grips cracking, so they will likely replace the grip and send it back. They will not polish the internals unless you pay them to do so (and that's assuming they still have a gunsmith that knows how). Right after I got mine five or six years ago I sent it to S&W to have them give it the once-over and replace the night-sights. It was a little over $300 if I remember right (most of that was the sights).

Checkered grip handle , night sights, curved grips, year it was made . Mine was 1991. Does have mag safety although some did and some didn't.
