Default Changing Sights on a 3913

I have a new to me 3913 with what I believe are factory sights. I am having two problems with this pistol. One is that I shoot it low and I've just made a separate post about this issue.

The second problem is that I get a really fuzzy sight picture with this pistol. I essentially get two horizontal lines with each sight (front and rear). I think this is partly because of the lighting at my local range on this sight. I don't get the double image on other pistols at the same range.

I tried painting the sights with matte black paint and it helped a lot but the paint smears and comes off when cleaning. I am willing to change the sights but need some advice on which sights will eliminate this glare and how to match the sights as there is a dizzying variety of post heights out there.

Do you wear prescription glasses? It sounds like a focus problem. I'm not sure why it would only be an issue with your 3913.

While I agree 4" low at 20 feet is too far off to be anything but operator error I'd make it easier to shoot by switching to Wolff springs. The draw bar spring makes the biggest difference followed by the mainspring. It is not hard and does not take special tools.

By the way, fixed sight 3rd generation pistols were intended to be used with an odd sight alignment. You were supposed to align the 3 dots and hold the center dot directly over the spot you wanted to hit. Stupid. With a normal center hold most of them hit about 4" low at 25 yards for me. Using the sites as intended makes it nearly impossible to hit small targets because they are covered up. S&W's plan must have been for self defense at close range. In the past S&W sold various height front sights to adjust elevation.

Well THIS is interesting. This is the first indication I've seen of a cause for this issue and there are a LOT of posts around the net from people with the same problem. A gunsmith I know had independently confirmed that the dots weren't in the same position relative to the tops of their respective sights. I have a separate thread running on the low impact.

So am still looking for a recommendation for replacement sights that solve two problems, the POI problem AND the hazy sight picture. (It isn't that the dots blur together but instead that I get fuzzy top edges on both front and rear sights, and only on this pistol.)

I do wear prescription glasses and only shoot with the same glasses (trifocals) I wear day in and day out. I use the middle or 'computer' distance portion of the glasses to shoot when doing deliberate aiming with sight picture, etc. I think the problem is the finish on these sights which, while not glossy, is not dull either. I remember that military firing ranges put small pots of something called carbon black to dull and blacken sights. Birchwood Casey sells a spray sight blackener.

Thanks. This may be a solution. However my problem isn't the dots blurring but rather the top edges of the post and rear sight blade. I actually prefer to shoot with traditional sight alignment as most of my pistols don't have dots.
