I had one and let it go. What a dummy!
Figured owning four single action guns -- a S&W 745, HiPower, Star BM, and Sig P210 -- the 1911 was redundant. WRONG!
Felt incomplete not having 1911, so found a good deal on a Remington 1911R1S. Not a bad gun at all. But I have more Smiths than anything else and I should never have sold it, despite the $$ I made on it.
Get it.

I have a lot of Smith revolvers and semi-automatics, but my 3 1911's are other manufacturers because of price. Nothing wrong with Smith 1911's, but I get more bang for my buck elsewhere.

There have been a few threads about the E-Series, one not that long ago. I've owned a few 1911's from various manufacturers and my E-Series is one of the nicest shooting 45's I've shot. You definitely won't go wrong with any of the S&W 1911 models.

SW 1911 TA 108411
Here's my two cents, experience, and another long post ha ha !
I had the good fortune last year, to try many 1911's owned by members at my Fish and Game...I love that everyone is eager to have you shoot and share their guns and experiences...great community.
I've had the opportunity to shoot many competition and gold cup Colt models, and a few springfield armory offerings, including the Emmissary (Which I still want in 9mm) and Operator. On one particular afternoon I got to shoot 7 different amazing and expensive 1911's and an Atlas 2011. One of my friends I invited brought his SW1911 E Series which I thought felt really amazing. Then a couple weeks later, another member had the SW1911SC model with the scandium frame, and I tried his and again, really felt good in my hands, great accuracy and follow ups.
This past August as I was paying for a SW411 at my LGS, I looked in the case and there it was, a brand new E series SW1911TA 108411...I could not believe my eyes. I asked the store owner if this was a special order, and he said he had ordered 2 of them at the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic that he forgot he ordered and they just showed up. It's exactly what I wanted and I had been looking all over for this very model and I told him immediately that I want it, but I had just paid for the 411, and didn't have a down payment until next week. He took it out of the case and said something you don't hear very much, "For you, no problem, I'll put it aside for you for you when your ready". I was beyond excited, and we chatted about the price. I went home and told my wife about it. She knew that I was looking for it as she had been involved in the research for our first 1911. That was on a friday, and on the next friday afternoon, I came home after work, and there was a familiar blue case on the coffee table...She went out of her way and purchased it for me as a surprise... now that's love!! She's a keeper, and I am so glad she shares my love for 2A and S&W.
Sorry for the long story...here's my take on S&W 1911's. Even though they are relatively new to the manufacturing of 1911's (since 2003), They have all the features I was looking for including a rail I will never use. The weight of the integrated rail and full length guide rod really make this TA model a flatter shooter, and mitigates recoil of .45. Plus, I really love the grips, and the fishscale serrations fore and aft really appeals to me...it just looks and shoots awesome, great trigger and Tritium night sights are a plus. When I bring it to the range, people go ga ga over it, gets lots of compliments and that feels pretty pretty pretty good, and I always offer it to anyone wants to shoot it.
When I bought this pistol last year, the retail was $1459, and now on the SW website, the msrp is now $1532. My wife paid cash on my already negotiated price of $1250.00, so I made out pretty good. The store owner was even more psyched that I was able to sell the other one he had in stock to a buddy who wanted as well. Happens alot when I'm at a store, I like to give my two cents to people, share my experiences, and what little I know.
There is a SW1911TA (108411) right now on the big auction site for $1250.00, and it's the least expensive one. Many available out there are 13 14 and $1500.
Do your research. These are not rare, but I really cherish mine, and feel fortunate to have one. It is my second NIB S&W purchase (my first was the SW model 60-15 Pro series PC) and is an awesome shooter, built like a tank, heirloom quality, and lifetime warranty....hope this info helps, or you got some good sleep from it ha ha. The pic shows my 4516, and the 1911TA below it.
Good luck

I have the "E" Series and it's the most under rated 1911 on the market. With its many upgrades, it'd be more than double coming from a boutique builder such as Wilson Combat or one of the many others. $1,599 (now new) is a steal for a gun of this caliber.

I also have an e series. A very good 1911, whose only detractor in a purist’s eyes is the external extractor. For me it been completely reliable and accurate. Only upgrades I did are replacing front sight with FO from Dawson Precision , magwell and G10 grips.
While trigger is reasonable OOTB, I may be looking to upgrade the trigger on my own this year.
Bottom line- a very good factory 1911 not given the credits it’s due IMO

I do have one, I was beginning to wonder if I wasted my money, box, lock and papers, it’s used but not very much. $800 I have found that on a 1911, I love the relief in the left hand grip, not only aids in operating the mag button, but helps with the overall grip and I have big hands, I have the original grips but prefer these mag plus, was going with the black and white theme

I had a stainless E series for some time...I think it's a good gun for the money, as it has a number of semi-custom features at the price of a mid to high end production gun.

I've had a SC e-series since 2018. Love it, shoots well, and is by my bedside.
