Default $450 Out the Door For 3913?

I have had 3 3913's. Sold them to fund something else. I have had probably 12 3rd gen S&W's, so I like the guns. I am left with only one, a very nice 5903.

I saw a very nice 3913 today for $425. $450 OTD. Don't need it. Will rarely if ever carry it. I have smaller and thinner 9MM's for that. Will shoot it, but have other guns so the 3913 will see maybe 300 rounds a year.

This one is all stainless. No MIM parts. Looks very clean. One mag and no box or papers.

I know I'm about to get "just buy it". But is $450 OTD a good price? My first 3913, bought in 2004, was $325, but it had box, papers, and 2 mags.

It seems to be regional. A LGS near me has had one listed at $424.00 for over a month. I've had one listed on another forum with one magazine for $450.00 for a few months with no bites. The reason mine is listed at that price is it's former CA Dept. of Corrections gun, so it had low rounds and is really clean. It also has a new recoil spring and the magazine has a new spring as well.

I wouldn't say that the gun you are looking at is over priced, but again, it's regional. Right now in MA, 3rd Gens don't seem to be going for a lot of money unless they are TSW or some other "special" variation.

TTSH and Gasaman might have different perspectives on what's going on in this area.

No it's not all stainless. The slide is but the frame is aluminum. Just clarifying. At that price I would be a buyer as well.

That's a good price IMO...for a very nice 3913......I'm just north of the Burgh...and have been carrying a 39xx since 1990.....

with the Shield pricing and rebates..... I'd haggle....... to drive the price down..........

New Shield w/ rebate for around $300..... or your used 3913 at $425......

Good luck

I paid $400 to $425 (plus ~$25 sales tax) for 3 of my 4 Model 3913 pistols. The last one I got a little cheaper but only one magazine, no box and it was a bit of a fluky situation for moonbat MA... not the norm. I didn't really need a 4th one, but I couldn't pass up a clean 3rd Gen at a below market price.

Haven't seen the one that GaryS mentioned above for $424.95 so I can't say whether or not it meets the "TTSH Standard" for acceptable condition. Since I really don't need a 5th one, I'm not that interested.

++++++++++

ETA: The one GaryS mentioned does come with its factory box and a spare magazine. But lasting as long as it has at a very high traffic shop, I've got to believe that it must be showing some wear.

Always interesting to hear asking prices for 39-3913's per locale. Wasn't sure if Ma. was on the higher or lower end for these models. Saw a consigned 39-2 last year for $625 but who knows if it sold for that. I figured around $450- 525 for minty examples.

A "nice 3913" (to me that means 98% or better) with one magazine for $450 out the door. In Southern California, folks would grab that pretty quickly . . . and some, such as myself, would pounce on it, and I already have 3 of them (two 3913s and one 3913 TSW pre-rail).

S&W 3rd Gen prices are like real estate prices, it's all about location, location, location.

I bought one LNIB with 3 magazines for $470 out the door about a year ago. I would think $450 is a good price.

I purchased a LNIB 3913 about 8yrs ago for $450. I sold it a year later for the same money. I never ended up carrying it, couldn't adjust to the TDA. I am a DAO guy, probably due to years of revolver shooting.

Wish I could find deals like that locally. 3913 only show up rarely and then at $500-600. Too high, IMHO.

At the other end of the spectrum....

I plunked down $650 plus transfer for a 3913 with factory laser and original box. Of course, it was, and remains, unfired.

Why? I don't know but it still feels right to have done it.

I would say it's very good price, as long as it's in excellent condition. I wouldn't expect mint/NIB for $450--but still in very nice condition.

FWIW, I paid $800 for an unfired 3913TSW (pre-rail) last year. Nice gun. Exactly what I was looking for. But for some reason, I always shot my plain jane 6904 quite a bit better.

The 6904 remains. The 3913TSW does not.

I don't know, my 3913 TSW pre-rail has always shot well for me. Of course, it did take a little getting-use-to with the very short grip.

I found that the biggest problem with accuracy in my pre rail 3913TSW was the 115gr ammunition I was using at the range. 124gr shoots a lot better, and 147gr shoots even better than that.

I still have to work to correct my tendency to pull a bit to the right, but my hits are much closer to the point of aim than with the 115gr.

This is also at 21 feet with a two handed grip.

The original "not black" parts, if you mean the hammer & trigger, were flash-chromed, machined carbon steel. Steel sear & disconnector, with a metal (aluminum?) plunger cup.

The newer, revised parts were black MIM, and the other black parts (slide stop lever and manual safety) became stainless MIM (which still required in-house machining after being received from outside MIM).

The disconnector and plunger cup became plastic (nylon), and the rest of the metal parts benefited from improved machining methods.

Personally, I'd be willing to pay more for the newer guns that came with MIM, as the quality of the parts was typically improved, and the MIM parts (especially the hammers) lent themselves to better, smoother trigger pulls. Then, there were the revised and improved extractors and ejectors in the new guns.

I'd not be willing to pay as much for the older guns, made using older machining and materials.

Wow. Great shooting. I can come pretty close to that with my 6904, but my groups with the 3913 were just never that tight. I think the extra width of the 6904's grip lets me put more lateral force from the support hand; the gun always feels super locked-in when shooting. Strangely, though, even the Hogues didn't help all that much on the 3913.

After I picked up the 6904 on a whim, I decided the "ultimate Smith DA/SA concealed carry experience" would be the TSW 3913 with no rail. Paid the premium for it. Just didn't pan out the way I thought.

Honestly, I usually carry a P239 now. But the 6904 still comes along now and again.

Well, I'll fess up. My 1992 "Plain Jane" 3913 shoots darn good, too.

Can't believe how many times this comes up in similar ways.

A LNIB S&W; single stack, alloy frame; stainless slide; TDA.

What else can you buy anywhere near this quality (and feel); that is probably one of the all time best guns for CCW - for that kind of money?

I'm just surprised they don't go for $800-$1,000.

Interesting. My groups with the 3913 would scatter a bit to the left as well; saw some vertical stringing. I probably should have tried different types of ammo. But I picked up a used P239 as an impulse buy, and it shoots very accurately for me. Figured that would become my single stack 9 option.

I still kinda miss that 3913. Though... I sold it to my coworker Not impossible that I could get it back one day.

All you can do is ask. If they come off a few bucks, that's good.

I just bought a 3914 DAO NYPD run , almost new for $435 out the door. Waiting anxiously for delivery. Hard to beat the single stack 9mm.

That's a good price. If I could import one into MA, I'd be looking for a deal such as that. If I move out of MA be while I'm still able to hold a gun, that's first on my list of acquisitions.

Very good deal!

Is that the famous (infamous) NYPD 47# trigger? Obvious exaggeration but they do have a special heavy trigger spec.

Hello kbm6893,

The $425 ($450 out-the-door) is probably about the current price, or just a BIT high for here in South Florida. Like BAM-BAM says in post #4, the market and price is affected by Shields as well as other, newer options.

The 3913s come up for sale on occasion, and if the condition was very good or better I'd probably go to the hip and make a purchase. Magazines are still available so that's not an issue... other than cost. If it had the original factory box, the price would be fine.

ANYWAY, for guys like me, with smaller hands (and a LONG... time to live) they are a pleasure to shoot.

Best wishes everyone!

Roger aka Mr. Wonderful

Sort of. It's designated as an off duty so I think the trigger is a little less than the 12 pound duty trigger. These were made up until 2012 I think, so it's one of the newer 39 series. The price was right, and I can always swap out a spring to lighten the trigger.

The 3913 is the "perfect" S&W 9mm. When 469 came out, it shortened the Devel and Asp order list. The 3913 finished it.

At the current time, there are MANY 1st, 2nd & 3rd Gen S&W METAL guns going for extremely reasonable prices.

Here's my track. No Ladysmith or Tacticals, just regular and NL versions.

Smith & Wesson 3913 Pistol in 9x19. Blue Book of Gun Values (37th Edition) indicates between $395 in 95% condition and $550 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 112 recorded prices for this model gun from $225 to $750 over a period of 9 Yrs 5 Mos ending June 3, 2017. The average price as of that date was $496. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights. Adjusted to two magazines. All represented as 95% or better. No distinction for engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $622. The last 10 prices I have for this model since 4/24/2017 range from $405 to $635 averaging $469

My 39 shoots like that. Good group. I found a factory adjustable site in a bubble pack and added that. Mine is blue with walnut grips. A true classic.
