And the wait is over. Not much use at all but the etching still needs to go.

Default S&W 4006TSW California Highway Patrol (CHP) Information

I don’t think I ever showed you guys this. Bought back my original issue and changed it up a bit.
Trigger job (did it myself)
Warren sights
Oversized mag release
Removed the mag safety
Melonite slide and slide stop - I hated the TSW billboard.

I have grown over time to despise the TSW billboard artwork as well. Yes, I still own a handful of TSW pistols with the artwork in various shades of brightness vs. fading, but give me the plain Jane roll-markings or even the simple laser markings every time!

A while back when one of my blind-ordered TSW's arrived very unevenly faded, I tried to get a local company to restore the artwork... but they could not do it. It would have to go back to the mothership they said. Later, I inquired about it with S&W CS and they said they can still do the artwork restore, but only with a slide refinish. No way I could justify the cost.

I guess I am "that guy" who thinks the enhancements in the TSW pistols are not worth having to put up with the billboard advertising artwork. Call me old fashioned I guess. Rails don't really do it for me either (especially the black mustache rails) so between those two "improvements" I can live without any more TSW's in the armory.

30 seconds with the proper bead blast and the black etching is gone plus it leaves a nice new finish.

BTW The trigger on the one I got today is as good as a lot of my revolvers.

In case anyone is looking. These factory 11 round mags from CDNN are great. Way better then the ones that came with the gun.

I too purchased one from Mark after talking on the phone with him. Very friendly. I bought a mint condition non-railed 4006 a couple of months ago and fell in love with it, so I thought I'd buy a shooter.

I bought mine last march from summit, mark was a great guy to deal with. The gun was in great shape, it’s the only “semi custom” gun i’ve ever owned, and at $385 couldnt go wrong.

Oh yeah it's cut into the metal. I just wanted all the black removed. Shame the S&W emblem is gone. I wish they would have it stamped and not etched.

Figure add this here instead of my thread on my 4006, but my CHP6554 was made Dec 2006 for those looking for manufacturer dates.

Did I miss the tally of the number of CHP4013's produced?

Speaking of motors. I once was looking at some LE trade in Glocks in my LGS.
They had one that looked great on the left side.
When they handed it to me, I noticed the right side of the grip looked like a motor officer went down and slid on the pavement.
That was the only obvious wear to it. The rest of the gun looked new.
I bet the bike (Road King?) had some interesting rash, too.

after getting mine I didn't like the billboard so here's what I did. Don't think I really like it but now I'm going to Scotch-Brite it.

I like it, Jul. It really has an all-business look to it. I agree with you, too, that it would be nice if the S&W logo had been stamped into the metal, but even so, this gun now says "unmarked" and "don't mess with me." Nicely done.

Most of these guns look like they could benefit from a complete disassembly and ten minutes in an ultrasonic cleaner.
In disassembling the slide, since the CHP specified the special spring loaded decocker/safety body for the CHP4006TSW model so it would always be in fire mode, I would guess that the removal of the decocker/safety body may be a slightly different procedure to remove verses a normal 3rd gen decocker body?
Does anyone have any knowledge of any special instructions that may need to be followed for the CHP decocker removal?

I've taken down two 4006TSW slides (except for front sight
and extractor), and decocker disassembly is same as 3rd Gens
safeties--just keep an eye out for the additional detent &
spring that sits in slide (thanks, adrianolsen!).

On reassembly, the decocker return spring has a small leg
that extends into a locating hole in slide, to put the "return
tension" onto the return spring. Just rotate the decocker
body to point that spring leg into the slide hole as you
push decocker body into slide. Once the spring leg is
captured in the slide, rotate the decocker up to "fire"
position and continue pressing it into the slide. Easier
to do, than to describe.

One slide assembly was fairly clean under the rear sight.
The other had quite a bit of accumulated grunge; pic of
the firing pin safety plunger from that slide, below. You
won't know what's going on in your slide, if you don't
look.

BTW, the rear sights on both slides were EASY to drive off,
compared to other 3rd Gens. I was prepping one and gave
it a tap, holding the slide in one hand--and much to my
surprise, the rear sight moved. Ended up driving both
rear sights off, just holding slide in one hand and tapping
punch with dinky Lyman brass/plastic hammer.

Your welcome, FYI, my co workers and I spent 2 weeks at the factory advising/ designing the TSW. My idea was the decocker safety spring and plunger you see in the picture. My co workers call it the “ Adrian plunger “. Kinda funny

Well, unsure for the grooves. But they took out the cut outs on each side like the old 4006 to strengthen the chamber.

I saw in some earlier posts that a few retired CHiPs were in the thread. So I'm wondering if any of you might have known a Sgt. Wayne Mulholland, spent most of his time in LA and Fresno area.

He retired probably 20 years ago (so I doubt anyone would have known him) but he was my friend and he recently passed and I miss him, so I just thought I'd ask.

He never carried a 4006 as he began in wheel guns and stayed with them. But I just got a 4006TSW CHP in his memory.

I just began editing some of his stories...wow!

I knew a Mulholland in the 80's, who did get promoted to sgt and transferred down south, although I'd forgotten his first name. How many Mulhollands who were promoted to sgt could there be in the CHP?

Since I sent you the PM I got to thinking about it, and I remembered the name of the longtime Nights partner of the Mulholland I knew, when he worked a field office in NorCA, Steve Muders. Muders was also promoted to sgt, and I eventually lost touch with both of them. Looking online, I found that Steve Muders passed in 2018.

Yep, those were the revolver days of the CHP. (At my agency, too, comes to that.)

I told you these guns would appreciate when the supply dries up...

Obviously this was a erroneous bid, after it was retracted the pistol sold for $560.

What happened to the original non-TSW CHP 4006s? I've seen one go up for sale locally which I regret not grabbing but they don't seem anywhere near as prevalent on the surplus market as the TSWs are.

That bid was due to shenanigans of one of Copper Customs (the seller) owners.

I think every auction they had was bid up to $10 million.
