Need help on identifying a 3rd Gen. Update got a SSV
A few days ago on Gunbroker I was browsing the used S&W semi auto section and I usually start on the back pages and see what's new on there. I found a two-tone 9mm 3rd Gen that was a SSVT or STV or something like that. I assume it was a full size frame with a compact slide on it. I went back to find it and its gone or I can't find it. So guys, what was I looking at and how can I build one if possible? I think starting price was $700. Thanks in advance. Update, I posted this thread over a year ago and have been on the look out for a SSV. Found a nice tu-tone 5903 SSV on gunbroker up in New Jersey. Bid on it and won. Total cost was under $500 shipped and including transfer fee at my FFL. Condition was excellent and super happy with it so far. Stripped it and inspected the aluminum frame rails and greased them up. The former owner says he's owned it since sometimes in the 90's but can't remember. Sadly no box. A couple of quick questions, does is use the recoil spring of the 3913/14 as it has the same slide? And what would be the manufacturing year with a serial number TEU84**? Hopefully I'll remember how to post pics on here and add some.

That's it guys! So how "Custom " were these? Or did the factory just slap a short slide on a full size frame? Could some one make one of these from 2 guns??

Yes. I have the other way round, a 5906 slide on a 6906 frame. I sold th the opposite combo as a 5906 SSV home made

Early 5906 frame with latter 6906 slide. Balances and functions
perfect. Pretty accurate too. I just had some extra parts, and the
6906 slide was too long in back for it's intended project.
It's a beater, but works.

Yep. Swapping slides is the men's version of swapping heads on Barbie dolls. Or somethin' like that.

I've watched it list and not sell for several weeks at $589 and now it's $619?
