Default Smith 5943, anyone know which years these were built?

I ran across a pretty nice 5943 at my LGS and put it on layaway. OTD price will be $350. I picked it up to check it out and couldn't put it back down. I love the DAO trigger in it. It really has that double action revolver feel. Can anyone hazard a guess which years Smith built these?

I almost gave you the wrong information. The 5943 was only made on year, 1991. The SCSW says it is a "scarce" gun. Values range from 450 in Very Good condition to 700 ANIB.

It appears you got a good deal on a rare 3rd Gen gun.

One question, though. Is it a 5943 or 5943TSW?

Pictures are always welcome on the forum!

Its the standard model with regular length slide and rounded trigger guard. Thanks for the info! I will post photos when it gets home in a week or so.

It can't be that "rare" or valuable if poor old TTSH already owns 2 of them and almost bought a third. We established long ago that I can't afford any truly "rare" 3rd Gen pistols.

Both of mine were purchased in smaller shops North of Beantown (known around here as Boston's Northshore), so my theory is that some PD up in that area must have traded-in a bunch of them a few years back.

The Model 5943 is a personal favorite. Simple, lightweight, fixed sights, DAO, high-capacity with MA-legal "pre-ban" 15-round magazines... what's not to like!
