Performance Center Box Color-Shorty 9
Good morning all, I have found a close to new in box Smith Performance Center Shorty 9, Product code Product code 170030, serial number PCV0258, and see that the matching box is the normal box for this era but is red in color. Since I have only seen these boxes in black, does anyone know if they came in other colors? Does the color matter? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks! Brian

I would say that -never- do I recall seeing any true Performance Center pistol in a red box. I'd like to see pictures! A PC Shorty-9 is definitely a true PC gun, my best guess is that the original boxes were the rectangular blue cases with the cheap plastic latch that often wore out/fell off, and they later moved to the really ugly black Doskocil brand case with the unattractive Performance Center foil sticker.
I am NOT certain of this, but that's what I seem to recall. Definitely interested in seeing a red box?
You ask if the color matters -- well, if it has a S&W logo on the case and it has a printed end label with all that information, my reaction would be that you have a box that was a rare run, and for the folks who go gonzo over the original boxes, it sure sounds like a neat upgrade that other folks likely don't have.
Post a picture!

The one you're looking at isn't a Performance Center or S&W box. It's a nice gun though!

There is one for sale on the Guns International site. I don't know if this is it or not, but it's in a red box.

I had a NIB Shorty 9 that I sold about 2 years ago. It was not in a Red Box and of the 50 or so PC guns that I have had...none have been in a Red Box (but never say never).
The Shorty 9 I had came in either the Blue Plastic PC box or Regular Blue Box. I am sorry that I can't exactly recall which box.
And yet there are plenty of exceptions when it comes to shipping boxes.
