Do you have the original box with the box end label still affixed? The manufacture date is typically shown under the SPC. ORD code. It will be a 4 digit number. If you have this number, post it and someone will decode it for you.
I'd agree 1994. According to "the book" Smith didn't exactly follow or use every letter in sequence. But VAL, VAM are documented in that year and VAV in 1995
