My First Non-Revolver Handgun
Haven't had much interest in anything else but revolvers, I do own one rifle (1956 Remington 721) and one shotgun (Winchester model 12), other than that all revolvers. Mother-in-law decided to give us her S&W model 4006. Long story short shot it now I love it. Never wanted a pistol and .40 cal never really interested me but I really do like this gun. My husband is content with his Springfield XD 9mm so he said I can have this one.
Just wanted to show it off and maybe hear some reviews.

Looks like a great pistol. I like the .40 cal in my M&P. I am sure that you will enjoy shooting that beauty!

Built like a tank, reliable, and you'll definitely know when you're shooting it -- it's a lot of gun. I had one of these myself early in my semi-auto career, and though I moved on to other calibers, the 4006 was a nice gun. Enjoy! Your mother-in-law had good taste in handguns.

Congratulations. If you're like the rest of us, it will be only the first in a long line of Gen3s.

As someone who started as a revolver fan, the all metal semi's are much easier for me to become attached to. Like you, it took my husband to get me to dip my toe in that water. Enjoy.

I do like that it is all metal. I have shot other pistols before but I just can't get past the 'plastic' feeling.
It is in great condition, she bought it new and it has been sitting in her closet ever since. It was her home defense gun, probably only a few boxes shot through it.

One of the best things about these all-steel tanks is how the weight softens the recoil of the .40SW. Looks like you got yourself a nice one, glad you enjoy it!

Yep, great pistol. I had two but moved one, keeping the other. I am also not a big fan of the .40 S&W chambering so much (for many assorted reasons that don't really add much to this particular conversation) but if I have to give an honest "pro-.49 cal" comment, I will say with full confidence and while totally ignoring any discussion of performance on human attackers -- the 165gr and 180gr .40 S&W ammo drops noticeably more energy on targets than any 9mm. This is seen easily and repeatedly when you shoot a lot of steel plates.
I say all that -- to preface this: if you really like your 4006, fantastic! But either consider or seriously avoid a 5906. Because a 5906 is almost exactly the same as a 4006 except BETTER in almost every possible way.
I'd be happy to expand on that statement but only at your request as I don't want to steal any thunder from your cool new pistol!

Absolutely correct!
I shot the 3914 and the 4006 yesterday.
The little 9 seemed like it had more kick than the big 40.

Caliber notwithstanding, you got a 3rd generation S&W pistol - that is outstanding!!!! I am mostly a revolver guy myself but the S&W 3rd Gen pistols are a joy to shoot, they last and last, and they combine the best of all worlds with their traditional double action triggers, de-cockers, etc.
Good for you!!!!

Welcome to it! I also started with revolvers as well but the 3rd gen guns got my attention and now own more autos than revolvers.
I would warn you to stay away from 3913's, 3914's or if you like double action only certainly avoid the 3953 and 3954! If you try one of these your doomed to own them all!
Here's a taste...beware!
