A LGS has a 3913 LS for sale.

Asking price, $650.

Great condition.

What do people think about the price?

It seems a bit high to me, but then this is California and these are hard to find here.

Also, what do people think about the 3913 LS in general.

Hello, It depends on the condition, box and paperwork etc. If it was me I would offer them a lower price $650 sounds high to me...You can find them cheaper on gunbroker.

Yes, but I live in California and we can't mail order used guns.

Can only buy F2F with an FFL present from another California resident, or buy on consignment from a gun store (as in this case).

I'm in CA. It's worth it to me if it is in nice condition. No if it's beat to heck. $650 is about right for our market. If I wanted one I wouldn't worry about that price too much. If I didn't want one, I would pass, knowing I will eventually find one cheaper one day. Good news about CA is I have not had issues finding the 3rd Gens of interest to me. And you could buy worse for that amount.

Btw, they sell real quick under $600 here in CA. Asking this question on the boards here will result in many different answers with most finding a better deal than you outside of CA.

I had a Lady Smith, sold it, didn't care for the LS markings on the slide. I have had a few variations of the model. Now I have the 3913TSW and it's a keeper for now. All of which were had for less than the one your thinking about. Good luck and the 3913 is a favorite for many members here.

The last one I saw in a Cleveland Ohio area gun store was LNIB for $650. Too high for me, but it sold between my monthly visits.

My local LGS in Atwater had a 3914NL sitting in the case for about 3 months. $375.
I finally asked how much on layaway. (I have spent a LOT of money in that store before this sale and after.)

BUT... I would buy it. Mine is one of my pistols on my permit.
And mine handles hot HPs very well.

Seemed high .... then you said Calf...........limited supply....... LS are about a $500 gun in most of the free world..... maybe as low as $450....

From reading here..... I'm forming an opinion that Calf starts at $100-150 higher than most other states....... and goes up from there depending on condition and rarity........of the gun in question.

Your question is; when was the last time I saw one for sale?..... and when might I see one again!!!!!

My biggest concern is that if I ever have to use it for self defense, the bad guy might be insulted being shot by a woman's gun.

Like I told the guy in the LGS -- at least it doesn't have pink grips. I'd probably draw the line there.

Well in Calf....... it's all about how you see yourself that day!

So get the LS for your softer side...... days ... weeks or months....heck in Calf you might even get Political Correctness points with the court if you ever have to use it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've carried a 3913NL as my primary concealed Carry gun since the early 90s....... check out Hogue wood checkered grip..... so if it doesn't effect your self esteem...... go for it.

Pay no attention to the prices elsewhere, you know your market. What kills me on are the amount of guys who refer to their gun as "she" but scoff at a Lady Smith...to each their own but I have the LS in 3913 and 65. Excellent guns. A person can find a 3913NL but I'm not aware of any other 65 with a shrouded ejector rod.

S&W has been making Lady Smiths for a 100 years so if I like the configuration then it's good enough for me.

There are 3 or 4 different versions of the 3913.

The Lady Smith version clearly has "Lady Smith" etched in script on the right side.

You must have another version.

The Lady Smith has a frosted stainless finish that I kind of like.

Also, the gray plastic grip is a plus.

I haven't seen other versions side-by-side so I can't compare.

My "self esteem" is just fine.

I don't mind in the least that is says Lady Smith on it.

So long as it shoots and I don't over pay too much for it.

Here's 3 3913's. Lady Smith, standard and TSW. There are a couple of others but these are all I have. What's not to like about the LS escapes me.

Great gun, but the LGS owner is eating expired medication. I don't care where you live. I paid $379 for mine at the LGS, & it sat for 5 weeks before I bought it. But if you're wealthy, or have $ to burn, pick it up. Around here, when a used gun sits for over a month, the price drops, and eventually will be sold for cost. GARY

That's pretty much my view also.

There are a few guns I have been looking for for a long time, and if I ever saw one I'd pick it up even if I had to pay a couple hundred more than the on-line auction prices.

But this gun isn't one of them. In fact, I never heard of the 3913 until I saw it for the first time last week.

It's an attractive gun, and sounds like a very good functioning gun, but I don't really need it and I'll just wait.

This store may very well drop the price if it sits in the case for a month or two, so I'll watch it.

I also live in California and have to deal with our anti gun laws prohibiting us from buying older guns or guns not on the DOJ roster of approved firearms. We can only buy non roster guns on a face to face sale. What I see with the prices, is a person selling a gun on consignment increases the price of his gun by $100 or more to cover the commission of the gun dealer. This allows the seller to get more cash to his pocket. the dealer gets his 20% for the sale and the buyer gets a gun in Calif that he cannot otherwise buy. Works out for everyone is you understand the system and know you are going to pay more that gun than in other states.

Of course, I also love my pre-39s, 39s, and 39-2s, the inclusion of which S&W has drawn in its 3913 lineage chart.

Then again, one supposes the S&W semi-auto lineage charts all draw their lines to and through the aforementioned first-generation handguns. Even the Model 59 doublestack veer originated with the 39.

While I've enjoyed my '13s (even the standard version) for the reasons as stated by my S&W brethren, also realized is the nice resale price when the time comes to say "goodbye" to them, whether I do it in person or my estate's representative through Rock Island Auction in my stead.

Besides two standard 3913s (one is NIB) and a 3913NL, I've six 3913LS' (two being NIBs). Then there's my first- (.22 long; patented Aug. 4 1896, BTW) and third-model (.22 Perfected) M-frame Ladysmiths (still looking for a 2nd model, though), along with a slightly more modern Model 36LS (.38 S&W Special) and, hopefully before long, a Model 60LS (.357 Mag) and 642LS (.38 S&W Special).

According to at least some authoritative voices, the 3913LS and NL's design was an answer to the wildcatted Devel, et al, whose curves and snag-free design (low-profile Novak sights, too) was one of Smith & Wesson's answers to the smaller, lighter and easier-to-hide pistols being developed by a variety of custom gunsmiths. (Another "combative" element was the second-generation 469 and 669 doublestacks, both eventually evolving into the third-generation's 6904 and 6906, respectively - themselves being good story saved for another day).

Don't under rate the 3913 because you didn't know about them until now. Many consider it one of the best guns S&W ever made. If you're looking for a quality 9mm that you can shoot at the range and carry it's hard to beat. As for the TDA trigger it's my opinion that in a defense situation you will do fine with any gun you shoot regularly and are comfortable with regardless if it's TDA, DAO, SA, striker fired or whatever. Practice regularly and any will serve you well.

Anyone can go buy a black plastic gun (nothing wrong with them) but an all metal gun that isn't like everything else you see today and is high quality sure gives me greater satisfaction..."need" has nothing to do with it! JMHO.

To me, the real benefit of the LS and NL variations is the single side safety/decocker. Which is why I changed out the ambi one in my pre rail 3913TSW for a left side only one.

I will admit though, the advantage is probably entirely in my head.

little or no difference in performance but ...... it's the "LOOK" folks are after.

Well after all that, I ended up buying the 3913 LS.

The seller took a little off the price, and I bit.

Now I have to wait 10 days before I get the gun and can take a picture.

This does make a nice difference! I was lucky enough to come across a few of single sided controls and applied them to my 6904, 3913 and 3913TSW pre-rail. It doesn't make a huge difference like you said but I like it. That's another reason why I like my 3954. The LS comes that way so it's all good!

My friend who still lives there wants to buy a 5906 badly. But from my research (and calling seemingly every LGS from Palmdale to OC) it seems that 3rd gen Smiths are hard to find. And if you find one you best jump on it. Was told 5906s sell for between $450-600 depending on condition.
It killed him that I just bought a police trade-in 5906 for $300.

You will no doubt love you 3913LS once your waiting period is over. On the subject of price I would say you did extremely well. I have both a 3913 LS also and a 65-5 LS and they are a pleasure to shoot. Snag free, easy handling, and they look great. I have yet to have anyone make a jest when I pull out a Lady Smith. Enjoy your new Smith.

Difference between 3913 and 3913TSW is mostly about fit and finish, heavier rails and maybe a touch nicer trigger. My pre-rail has 7 round capacity instead of 8 with a shorter grip. They aren't PC guns but were given more attention than the line guns.

There may be more to it but that's about all I can remember.

I wish wish wish my 6906 could be converted to left side safety like a LS.
