LGS guy thinks the Olympic is from the 50's...also can't find a serial # on it....Folks around here are selling off for some reason. Do I need to strike fast and stay on the road to hell with my good intent?

I never owned the Olympic Model with barrel weights and compensated long barrel but had a few bull barrel Model 107 Supermatics made in Hamden CT with extra barrels and mags.They are very well build competition target guns

Shot them in the 22cal phase of 2700 bullseye matches and 50ft winter indoor matches.

I need advice quick...don't think either will last long, plus, I'll have to dig up a coffee can of money outta the woods tonight after dark. Yes it does have the screw on barrel weights and one mag that releases from the magwell. Is the prices right on these pistols?? yep noticed those barrel comp cuts too.

My advice is to grow a pair.

That Olympic model will sit in his shop a long time for a buyer looking for that special model.

Offer $500 and then look for a 5.5" bull barrel.

Except for the barrels the HS frames,slides and mags of that period(mid 60s on) are basically the same and the rear sight is fixed to the frame and not attached to the slide.

They have a push button barrel release for a quick swap with a 7 1/4" fluted barrel or the shorter bull barrel.

Waiting on that 422 for a few months spawned a deal.
Of a sudden there's been a rash of older models hitting the LGS's....like nice quality I ain't seen before(5 mom pop shops within 1 mile radius of work)...Geeze...I'm gonna grow a pair an try to get both 1st thing in morning...(no cash today)I 'm worried that 22's goan getaway...I've overpaid before....sigh....what about 650 for smith with the sweet trigger job?

686-The price is right at the top end of fair. Short barrel is more desirable. If it was priced at $500 then I would be hot footing it down to buy! Neither gun is a smoking deal.

The High Standard Olympic is the 22 short target model. It was mainly used in competition. I have the longer barrel version (6 1/2"?) that has 2 under barrel weights that makes it pretty heavy but has almost no recoil. It's a fun gun to shoot but not for carrying in the field. Paid $285.00 for mine a while back in maybe 80% condition. See them selling for anywhere from $500 to $1,000.

Lipstick is off the pig...looking at the Olympic and a feller said he wouldn't buy or fire it. It's an Olympic barrel on a supermatic frame.....barrel is for a 22short and frame is a 22lr. Shop owner said he won't sell that gun(called the owner to come get it). He also said the spring on the 686 may be adjusted for a light pull instead of a sweet trigger job.
