Default M41 Recoil Spring ?

Can anyone give me the lengths of the Wolff springs for the Model 41? I am not for sure what spring is in mine. Thanks to all.

Default Model 41 Recoil Springs

You might want to check out bullseye gear.com. If you go to their website, you will see S&W Model 41 Parts about half-way down the left margin. Click on S&W Model 41 Parts, and you will see a S&W Model 41 Variable Power Spring picture. If you click on the picture, you should be able to find the information you are looking for.

Hope this helps.

Won't do you any good. Springs shorten after being installed.

Spring weight is determined by the Wire Gauge and the number of coils. It's all but impossible to know exactly what weight spring you have without buying it new. Get a new Wolff spring set for the M41and you will know exactly what is in there.

Standard Factory = 7.5 pounds. I find that in most cases if you have an ejection problem, using a 7 pound Wolff spring and CCI Std. Vel. 40 grain ammo pretty much solves that.

I measured a new Wolff Variable Power spring pack a while ago for my M41 as I get confused by having lots of springs laying around.

From my notes:

6.0 lbs - .027" wire
6.5 lbs - .028" wire
7.0 lbs - .029" wire

Since the wire gauge was consistent when measured with my Mitutoyo calipers I didn't worry about coils and length as I could identify the springs now. Also, unlike 1911 recoil springs I leave the M41 spring the original length.

Hello from NC. Has anyone found a source for 41-1 recoil spring and what fps 22 short load would be considered standard velocity? I do not mean to hijack the thread just not enjoying shooting my 41-1 without knowing where replacement parts can be found .

That may be a very difficult task for a 41-1. AS these only handle shorts but are highly prized by many collectors . One of other members on here has a large collection of them but he lives in Australia. I am sure he will show up soon for this one.
