Just purchased a "new" 5946. It was tested at S&W 2/13/14. But when I was shooting it in questionable light the white sights just don't show up. Was wondering if this is normal. It is a honey of a weapon but on the heavy side too
You could always try installing XS Big Dot night sights if the factory Novaks are hard to see. I have them on a 5906TSW and absolutely love them, very fast sight acquisition.
Sometimes they just get a little dirty and need some cleaning. Get a q-tip and some household cleaner and clean them. They may show up brighter and problem solved. If not, see above post. *s*
Try washing them with tooth brush. If they don't brighten up, you might get them replaced by S&W or the manufacturer. Three years is awful quick to fade, they should be under warranty.
Novak Sights offer a good selection.
You have a rock solid gun, easy to shoot, low recoil and reliable. They are a bit heavy. A good belt and holster are a must, look at Ritchie Leather.
I dabbed some high impact acrylic paint in my front sight on top of the old white paint. I used some hot pink paint from Walmart for $2-$3 with a toothpick. Very easy to pick up the front sight for quick shots.
