Default Need help with mounting scope to model 41

I recently purchased a Model 41 PC and need recommendations on how to mount a Trijicon Red Dot sight. I purchased a Trijicon rail mount however because the "rail" only goes part of the way back, I cannot mount the sight right in front of the "iron sight".
Every picture I have seen with a red dot sight mounted on a Model 41 is with the sight directly "in front" of the ironsight. Do I need to get the top plate in front of the iron sight drilled and tapped to install the Trijicon? Any recommendations is greatly appreciated.

Gary, I don't have a drilled model 41 in front of me to compare with what you are saying. But, it is not necessary to have the red dot sight mounted directly in front of the rear sight. They can be mounted anywhere on the top of the gun that does not interfere with ejection.

For example, I have a red dot sight on my High Standard Victor, and it is mounted on the barrel rib with a mount that clamps to the ventilated rib. Works fine. Your main concern when mounting a red dot is its position can change the balance of the gun. I like a little muzzle heavy on a target gun.

I'm not sure of the issue as the rail really gives you a lot of leeway. You should be able to see the red dot no matter where it's mounted - towards the front or the rear. Here's mine with different sights mounted and they both worked just fine.

However, what's really deadly on the Model 41 is a Leupold variable power long eye relief scope:
