Default Info on S&W Model 459

I'm a revolver guy but I couldn't resist this Model 459 I ran across in a pawn shop. Appears to be never fired. Came with box, papers and extra mag. Story was the original owner purchased the gun and never shot it. Had a few handling marks but is extra clean. I figured any Smith and Wesson in this condition had to be worth $300. Any information on current value and overall quality and dependability would be appreciated.

I'd say that gun is worth $300 any day. The current Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson list ANIB as worth $700. I think $500 probably closer to what they bring. Your box indicates the gun was manufactured on the 226 day of 1987. (I think) Mine cost me $410 OTD and didn't have a box.

The 2nd Gens are a bargain in that they are a great pistol that's been over shadowed by the 3rd gens when the two have more in common internally that what most realize, many parts will interchange.

While they feel a bit "blocky" without the slimming refinements the 3rd gens received with the one piece wrap around grips, they are as solid of a gun as the 3rd gens. I have a 459 and a 559 and both have been trouble free and as reliable as the sunrise.

Great deal... I have recently purchased the 459 as well in the nickel. If you think about selling yours please let me know. I may be interested. Thank you.
