Default Shield 45

I stopped in at a LGS this afternoon. I wanted to talk to the FFL about transfers, since I've used up my allotted four personal transfers (It's a MA thing), and still have a few guns I might want to sell.

I got to talking with the owner and found out who he uses as a gunsmith and a couple of other things that aren't germane to the thread.

He told me that he mostly sells new guns, which makes sense since he's been in business less than a year. He did point out a used Shield 45. Since they've only been out less than six months I have to wonder if the owner didn't like 45, didn't like the Shield, or didn't like 45 in the Shield.

Makes me even happier that I have a 457.

I didn't realize that it's been that long.

In loony moonbat Massachusetts, the S&W Shield .45 just made the MA Approved Firearms Roster in late-January 2017.

I've seen a few used Sheild 45s already and I don't stop in the LGS that often.

Reasons are plenty. Didn't like the recoil......didn't like the grip..... saw something else and trade towards that....... Didn't care overall for the gun....... Changed mind...... Wife said no..... Spent too much now need money to pay bills...... Legal problems......found out ammo was too expensive......too big to carry.....consolidating to one caliber.....not accurate (could be shooter problem).....I can go on and on! Not sure what owning a 457 has to do with someone else getting rid of the Shield!

Well, as you may recall, I'm getting rid of my brand new non-compliant Shield .45 as part of my new initiative to dump cheap plastic and acquire more high-quality all-metal handguns for the collection. Meanwhile, I just bought my first new (to me) 3rd Gen in 13 long months.

My head is spinning!! Since I have a lack of interest in Shields, I don't follow the trials of getting MA/CA/HI or whatever permission slip is needed.

In any case, the gun was sitting in the display, marked at something like $349.99. It will sit there for a while I think, given the S&W rebate.

Every time I'm tempted to buy a Shield "just because", I pick on up and hold one. That cures me.

The reason usually is the owner is hard up for cash. I see this all the time at work. It's not like the seller was selling a Colt Python. I'm sure once his bills are all caught up, he'll replace it. GARY

Maybe, but unlikely in MA. Pawn shops don't sell guns here. A gun shop might buy a gun, but consignment sales are the norm.

Opposite story here. Only 1 gun shop does consignment sales. All the others only buy/sell. No consignment. GARY

Default Shield 45

Love mine. Actual for a small frame polymer 45 it is a pretty soft shooter. My 40 shield has more felt recoil.
I like the better stippling on the 45.
Accurate out of the box.
Has not malfunctioned in around 1000 or so rds fired. But others may have differing opinions. Better be a real good deal as new units are not that high currently.
I paid a premium for mine as I had to be "one of the first" when it came out total was almost 5 bills.
