Question on birth date for 3rd gen
I have a 3913 Lady Smith 9mm pistol I just bought.
The serial number is: TJCxxxx
I can't find the TJC prefix in the catalog.
Do any of you collector gurus have a more extensive list of serial numbers?
I'd be curious when this pistol was manufactured.

Do you have the original box? Does it have a "spec ord" number? This can be decoded - the first digit is the year within the decade (so you have to know the nearest decade) and the next three digits (001 - 0366) would be the day within the year.

The easiest way is to call S&W Customer Service 800-331-0852 and ask them to look up the manufacture date from your serial number. Only takes them a few seconds and they have always been happy to do it when I have called.

Question on birth date for 3rd gen
I've emailed smith and wesson with all my manufacture date questions, they typically respond in 2 to 3 days...

Email the model and sn to SW customer service. They will provide month and year of mfg.
just did for me on my 4516-2 and 4006. Took about 24 hrs for response.

If you call, they will tell you right away. I've never used email to contact S&W CS because the phone works very well and some people who have emailed report slow response.
