Looks to be a late 1973 production gun. Enjoy!

Early 1974 seems quite likely, according to the fantastic Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 4th Edition by good guys Jim Supica & Richard Nahas (AND with genuine help from many great folks right here in this forum!)

Definitely get a copy of this fantastic book.

Value of a NIB/mint/unfired Model 59 with all original everything (and keep in mind that this is my opinion, not fact) would be amongst the lower end of most known 1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen models. I say this simply due the very high production of the model, the fairly low "demand" of the 59 and as it's relative status as a collectible pistol.

I would guess absolute top market for a true 100% Model 59 to be around $750-$800, and even then this would need to be offered by a known source of top-grade collectible guns.

I believe a solid rule of thumb would be to take another known and similar gun and use it to compare -- a Model 39-2 is the likely model and that pistol is somewhat more loved and desired as a collectible. In my experience, a 39-2 would carry a 10-15% premium over a 59 if absolutely everything else about them is equal.

The 59 is a fine pistol and I love the one I have but it doesn't draw a fury of collector interest. The one I recently picked up is a solid 95%-plus, one original magazine and nothing else and I was OTD for $320. I totally love it at that price but I also don't think "I stole it."
