5906 Serial Date
I recently purchased a S&W 5906 with a KMF serial# prefix, any ideas when this dates to? , I can't find any information on this one anywhere.
TIA

Adding a couple pictures, the two digit serial number was a surprise.

Can't help you with the date but that is one great looking 9 mm. Thanks for the pics. Best of luck and be sure to post a range report.

Just a guess based on the MIM hammer and roll marked slide, 1998 to maybe 2000...

I got this in a lot purchase of police trade ins and it was the only one that wasn't stamped with the departments name. It's also the only one with a MIM hammer and trigger.
Don't think I'll have a range report on it because after a complete tear down there was absolutely no residue of any kind inside anywhere. Not sure if this has even been fired outside of S&W.
I also noticed on the tear down that the main spring plunger is plastic not metal like the others, the disconnector assembly is also plastic.
I did some more checking and saw elsewhere that the serial prefix designated it as possibly a LE salesman demo. I'll be calling S&W to see if they can verify.

Spoke with a S&W rep and he said it was made 06/06/2000, and was one of the last ones they produced. He didn't have the exact figures as to how many were produced in that number range but did say not many.

Does it have a U stamp beside the trigger pin? Mine is KMF and rarely fired till I bought it few years ago.
